Hi,

I just had a question about the forms that are necessary to take to the interview in Ghana. My SO and I filed for the K-1 fiance visa. I have already filled out the DS-230, DS-156, and DS-157 and sent them all to him for the interview. However, when I was looking through the guides here on VJ, I saw additional forms related to the K-1, like the DS-157 and DS-158. Are these forms that my SO will also have to fill out at the embassy? My fiance made copies of the packets 3 and 4 that he got from the embassy and sent all the paperwork to me so that I could know what was needed. The only forms to be filled out that were included were the DS-230, 156, and 156K. Is this all that will be required of him to take in, form wise? I am just a little paranoid that maybe we are missing something, and I just wanted to hear from others who have gone through the embassy in Ghana.

Thanks,

Jamie

P.S. Do you submit the DS-230 before the interview or is it taken in the day of the interview with the other forms? Are you supposed to sign it and submit it in advance or wait to sign it with the other forms on the day of the interview before the consular officer? I am confused because I thought our instructions said to fill out and bring back as soon as possible, but I noticed in someone's posting that they said they took it unsigned to the interview. Which way is the correct one?

Didn't see this earlier

I would send all the forms that are listed on VJ. Its possible that they will not take them all, but better to be safe than sorry. All the forms will probably not be taken from him, but if he does not have the ones that they need, they may ask him to come back at a later date, or something ridiculous like that

When we were going to interview I had my husband take all the forms that are listed here. I don't remember which ones they actually took from him.

Your fiance will take the DS230 with him to the interview. HE SHOULD NOT SIGN IT. He will do that in front of the CO. Some consulates want the DS230 returned to them, others want it brought to the interview.

I agree with Zee.

As I recall, they took the DS156 but made us fill it out again in duplicate. We filled out the form twice for no apparent reason other than the woman being mean spirited. They also took 230 (which you sign in front of the CO) and the 134. As I remember, she compared the 325 to what she had and didn't take the new copy. It was a specific window that went over all your paperwork and then sent you to pay the visa fee and bring back a receipt to her. Once she determined you had everything you needed, then you went back and waited again to be called for the interview.

I think it's best to prepare every single form and have it on hand and to have an absurd amount of documentation and proof of your relationship and then let them decide what they want and what they will keep. It's much much more difficult if they ask for something and your SO doesn't have it, cause they send them on their merry way, happy to get rid of another case for a while. The CO looked at all the stuff I had and kept one copy of a picture and pretty much nothing else. But we had it all, if he dared to ask for the kitchen sink, it was in the bottom of my bag!

No.

Its just better to be safe than sorry. It only takes a few extra minutes to fill out the extra forms. Sometimes they ask for a form and can delay you if you do not have it.

I'd like to add that the expectation that they will provide you everything that is needed for the process doesn't exactly jive with the reality of the process as experienced, probably by yourself up to this point, and also by others all over the world.

Is it a reasonable expectation? Certainly!!!

Does it matter if you get there and they ask you for a form they didn't provide you in the interview packet? NO!

They will send you away and you have to start again to try to get another interview date. This is truly about having as much as possible to help you achieve the goal of getting the visa. There is no clear right or wrong when your SO is in Ghana and you're in the US wishing you were together and some nameless, faceless (I've forgotten what the CO looked like that interviewed us) employee has the power to prevent you from being together as long as their heart so desires.

Looking at all the forms listed on VJ. Looks like these are the forms that need to be taken to the interview: DS 156, DS 156K, DS157, DS158, DS230, G325A, I-134, I-129F, FC029 ( not sure what this one is).

All these forms need to be filled out and taken to the interview. correct?

Are these forms also required if you filed for CR1 ?

ready to send in I-864 (support) but not sure how to package it

or if I need to have the form notorized or not but I have everything else

ready. OS has send the DS-230 to me in the mail today so I need to

get my packet off asap. Tell me once everything has been turned into

the nvc (lets say in 3 weeks, because of mail) how long will it take before

they send it to Ghana and the letter is recieved for an interview.

Any idea if they get it by the end of may what the possible interview

date might be? I am thinking August middle some time if no problems

does that sound good or could it be longer?

Thank you for any help or reply.

:)

The forms I mentioned are only needed for the K visas.

I don't know how long it takes until you get an interview in Ghana. I believe those are scheduled by NVC, but I would say your interview date would be within 2-4 months of your case complete (from what I have seen on VJ Ghana timelines). Ghana has longer wait times than some other consulates for interviews for immigrant visas.

Good luck :)
