Anyone planning any really nice vacations this year?

Since hubby and I can't travel until he gets his GC, I am sending my teenager to visit my family for two weeks in London this summer. They have not seen her in 8 years. I am planning to go to Ghana, via London, with hubby early next year to introduce him to my grandma and then hopefully also take a Carribean cruise next year and spend a few hours in Ochi, so he can see friends.

I went to Caribana before - it was fun, but it's the same time as Crop Over in Barbados - if I had to choose, I would go to Crop Over - Caribana was too spread out for me - Plus, we had no clue of where to stay - the place we stayed was fine, but it was in the middle of the Chinatown section and no one spoke English - hard to figure out where we were going, lol

Is this in New York?

In Toronto, Canada....it's a huge Carnival the last weekend of July. New York's is during Labor Day weekend. DC's is in June. Balitmore's in July and Miami's in October.

Arbua, is very nice but I didn't think it offer me any culture vibes. I felt like I was visiting Miami, except the water and sunsets were nicer.

Bermuda, was tooo expensive, a breakfast cost us $30.00 dollars. Island is very small, we crossed over it in 3 hours.

Barbados was nice.....

Sus, my experience w/the Trindad Carnival was one that I was there with someone who was local, so my experience was not one of a tourist. I don't think I would compare a Canada Carnival to a Caribbean experience. To me there is no comparison, the outfits are wild in Trindad.

Aruba is nice but quiet. Very romantic and food is expensive. That's why I wanted to go during the Soulfest...something to do. But our main purpose is to visit his mother.

I was invited to the Trindad Carnival by a TNT Association in DC but I turned it down because it was an uncomfortable situation. My belly dance group will perform in Caribana....their customes are amazing...they are made in Trindad.

Shemmy do the 4 days cruise to the Bahamas out of Orlando, Fla. You can kill two birds with one stone, visit the Bahamas, and relaxation on the open seas. Plus, you only need one other partner to share a room with, the other person can even be your daughter.

That's a good idea Roxie. That's my next big trip - a cruise that stops in Jamaica for the day.

How did the award ceremony go Rox?

Is it the 7 day one out of New Orleans or Galveston that goes to Cozumel, Montego Bay, & Grand Cayman? If so, I went on that cruise before. It was the BEST cruise I ever went on. Loved the variety of spots it visited (unlike a lot of them that only go to multiple places in Mexico).

We've solved the "mystery" of our disappearing minutes. I wondered how we were possibly going through so many chips each month. Turns out when Steven calls me and eventually falls asleep on the phone (nearly every night), *I* hang up. But since he doesn't, and he initiated the call, the minutes keep tickin', I guess until the call gets dropped.

Shem, you should look at Barbados - Crop Over is in August, so so so much fun

I would like to go somewhere in May/June and a travel partner...my friends will only go to JA. And we're all going in August.

Barbados is beautiful....one day.

Come to JA for Memorial Day! I'll be there, JAEng....

I'll be there too  but I wonder will there be any special events or anything going on?? My best Memorial Day vaca was in Miami for Urban Beach Week. Man did we party. Cancun wasn't bad the one year either..

I felt the way you felt in Aruba about the Bahamas -- it was beautiful, but very Americanized. I had the same experience in Trinidad - we are friends with a guy who plays with Traffik, so at some of the fetes we were back with the band. I have TNT friends who won't go to Carnival - it just seems to bring a lot of violence. Caribana had the same costumes, music, food, etc... but I was really missing that island breeze.

The award ceremony was very nice, and I got a big surprise $$$$$$.

Congrats!

Good morning Shemmy and Islandwoman, I see you'll are up bright and early, I'm working from home today that's the only reason I am on line so early. Also, the weather man lied, he said it was supposed to rain most of the day today, I see the sun shinning. I thought I was going to sleep in late, then I would start work around 10'ish.

Islandwoman, what goin on?????
