Ells I bought Hotel Rwanda and I can't watch it! It makes me so sad I was only able to watch it once. My daughter had a project on Rwanda last year and I was helping her with it so I had to get books about the genocide. I skimmed some books written by survivors it was HORRIBLE! It made me so sad and the lady had pictures of her entire family in the book and most had been killed. She only lived because she was in the states when all that was taking place. Then I remember Oprah had a show about it and they were talking about how the surviving women were raped etc and how a lot got HIV and or babies from their rapist! The entire situation is just terrible and I don't know how the world could have just sat around and do nothing about that situation for so long.

What's awful is that still not much is being done & I don't know if much ever will be. If everyone could just have the opportunity to travel there and see for themselves what the people & their culture have to offer, it might make more take action to stop what's going on. But for now various atrocities continue throughout the continent. Makes me just want to cry! :crying:

So what will you do about your wedding rings? Will the two of you just do bands or will this be the one exception??

I know I remember my trip all the way up to the trip I kept thinking I am out of my mind but I wasn’t worried about my safety I was worried would he be there to pick me up, would we get along, will I be able to handle staying at a yaad and not a hotel/ resort, will his friends like me, will I be able to manage the food, will the  be good (hey I’m just keeping it real) you know all these silly things and never once about my safety. Man was I crazy!!!

I went to immigration and when I told them where I would be staying she looked at me like I was crazy. She was like umm are you familiar with this area. I was like no she was like umph well be very careful. That is when I started thinking ok, maybe this wasn’t the best idea. LOL But he was there, I loved the house, the food was great his friends liked me and well the other things  . Well I'm still going back anent I!!!!! LMAO!!!

For wedding rings I just want a plain white gold or platinum (if we have the $$) bands. No exceptions. If we have any kind of gem, maybe it will just be semi-precious stones like our birthstones or something.

LOL! Maybe TMI, but I was also worried about the  !! Glad I didn't have much to worry about there. I knew he'd be at the airport on time though, that I could handle staying inna yaad and knew I loved the food already! It was very strange though being suddenly 'mooshy' with someone I'd only grown to know over the phone. I only worried about my safety mostly one time as we were driving at night through curvy roads up in the hills with his cousin and friend. The paranoid part of me took over and I started imagining what if I was murdered and dumped somewhere...I'd never be found! Fortunately (and thank God) it was only my paranoia talking!

i always use that as an example sol, i too believe we should have provided more help. its like when do we as a country intervene and when do we mind our own business..its a fine line, i wouldn't want to be a leader in those kinds of times..

Even right now with the Somali pirates is yet another example of the neglect Africa endures when they are in dire need of help. European tankers dump nuclear & other hazardous wastes in their waters & foreign fishing vessels decimate their supply of seafood for them to make a living & it has been totally ignored until the actions of the pirates. Finally what has really been going on is being brought to light but only by a few independent media outlets....CNN & the others will put a very 'anti-Somalian' spin on a lot of the stories. What none of these outlets want to state is that they've once again been put into their current predicament by the European nations and the U.S. with our total lack of concern for their basic human rights.

Hey Honey....what I actually did was use my travel agent that I have used sooo many times before. I would think that would be your best bet. That way when the trips are being reserved, they can try to make sure you guys are at least on the same side or in the same block. I don't know if there is a TA that you have used before. The man I use is named Chip. Works for Just Vacations out of Alexandria, VA! It'll be easiest to do it that way because they can generally reserve a room and include the airfare, and you can pay ON the trip instead of having to shell out azz amount of money up front. There's usually like a $150 deposit. I'm using him to set up the birthday trip for my hubby in August to the Bahamas.

thanks Mrs P,

I was thinking about contacting the TA i used before but im thinking if i call her now, and say this is the block i want she is gonna want people to come up with money, like within a certain date, so i might give it until May before i contact her. right now i am really trying to secure a location to have the wedding.

Just remember that most TA's want the entire cost of the trip to be paid for 30-45 days prior to departure. I would recommend this route though, because it gives EVERYONE a chance to pay when they can, and if a family or friend is paying for more than one person, it sort of lightens the load. I don't know these places you're talking about having the wedding...where are they? And you're getting married 1 day before our anniversary--that's sweet!

Apparently bookit.com now does installments....sooo if you make the first booking just forward it to them and they make their own along with that. Luvtravelin on here is a travel agent, maybe try pm'ing her to see if she could do anything for you guys!

Honey, when you are looking for a venue to get married at, remember most of your guest won't have transportation.

Good point Rox...btw, I just called USCIS and they said that I just have to keep waiting because it's only been 5 months for me...oh well...

Good luck Honey. A lot of agenices stopped letting people put a deposit down and paying later. I've used Air Jamaica Vacations for most of my trips and this the first year they will allow not us to do so. Let me know if you find one that does.

A travel agent can hold blocks of flights with deposits, but not all airlines participate. Most hotels have an agreement with a particular airline, they will put a hold on flights when you are booking the rooms thru them.
