yeah you are so right ... He friends are great though the one that lives in the states calls me from time to time to make sure im managing ok ... of course at first it was weird cause i never thought he would call me cause my fiance had gone back. but my fiance was like he just looking out

One of my ex-husband's friends started doing that when we first separated. It didn't take very long at all before he started asking if he could take me out...first church...then real dates. I knew his wife and everything. I said I don't do grimy. ROLLING EYES REAL HARD!

good morning all!!

sorry to hear about the loss my2.. i just can't even imagine a child losing their mother at such a young age.. ur daughter is a great friend..

i know how u feel not talking to ur honey when u want.. communication is the crux of a LDR so when u don't get to have those long talks, it really affects me anyway..

the ex DID NOT pick up the girls and ignored all my calls becuz the girls kept asking me was he coming. and then he calld my daughter on HER phone at 9pm to say that he was coming today instead.. i tell ya.. this man KEEP doing things to make me not regret my decision of leaving him.

JERK!!! My oldest son went through this a lot in the beginning. Then, I stopped even telling him his father was coming. He was surprised and happy if he did finally show up...and I wasn't the bad guy.

I sent my email to Digicel customer service. I hope they update the top up amounts and the Digicel Rising Stars page. :bonk:

:hehe: Sometimes I get frustrated by how things are in Jamaica & how businesses operate. I used to want to move there in 7-10 years, but the more I see how businesses operate, the longer that timeline gets.

The top up is a joke...it used to have better format. You can top up for $1200 but the fee is $1250. Then you have to buy a $300 card to get the other $50 difference...made me mad too. I just use a different card to avoid the fraud check from the bank.

I really want to move to Jamaica...but only if I can be extremely comfortable...not struggling for anything.

Blessed Morning My beautiful Ladies

Mawnin babes.

Hey my beautiful sista Jawi!! How have you been?? Blessed I hope!! Your so blessed to have a wonderful man that only speaks patois to you. I want to learn so bad.. I mean it's one thing to write it but I want to be ablle to SPEAK it and hold a conversation. I picked up spanish just by listening to my step father talk to us only in spanish and I'm fluent now. So I know that if Rick would speak only patois I would catch on fast too.. I'M A FAST LEARNER!!! LOL...

I'm hanging here...can't complain. I hope all is well with you too. I have come to realize that Jamaican men do not like to repeat themselves...so rather than getting frustrated because you don't understand, they would rather speak Queens English. I can tell new people I meet that I understand patois even if I don't speak it...and they don't believe me at first until they start holding a conversation with someone else, and I add in or comment without missing a beat. When I started understanding it...it was so weird...I understood my first husband with no problem...but other Jamaicans...hell naws...especially not Jamaican women. Then, I was in downtown Ochi surrounded by different conversations and my ears literally "popped"...I was twirling around in circles smiling like a mad woman and nodding yes. LOL

It still takes me a minute to get used to women because of the different timbres in their voices...unless she has a rough dialect. Jonesie's MIL asks me all the time if I am Jamaican...she talks FAST...and she smiles when Jonesie and I can keep up with her. Makes me feel proud. LOL

Some Jamaicans have told me that it feels weird to chat patois and get back standard English...so the school training kicks in...hence the Queen's English or twanging.

I just got off the phone with one of my senators. I faxed his office on May 22 and they have already sent in an inquiry to USCIS and will notify me when they get a response. I said, "I know you say it takes 30 days to get a response, but how long does it USUALLY take?" He said that it actually does average 30 days to get a response. That's awful!

So I called my congressman. Turns out the lady in that office who works the immigration cases is at an immigration forum right now and will be back in later today. Hopefully she'll have some fresh information to tell me that she's learning at the forum.

I've decided to give this thing until Friday. If I have no news by Friday morning, I'm going to request vacation for end of July so I can make a short, 3-night visit.

This sucks rocks...my first time around Nat...I waited for 8 months. My case got lost and I got to work one morning at 3 AM just to fax the entire file plus the NOA1 to the USCIS before the fax machine got busy. I would have never known without a congressional inquiry. I put the inquiry in right at 6 months and it took 2 more months for them to review the faxed file and realize that the first file was not lost afterall. So trust me I know how frustrating this process is for you right now.

Still praying for you.

Goats don't bite lol!!

As for the patois thing, it's funny when I'm here, I speak the Queen's English straight. None of my co-workers think I can speak patois. When I'm in Jamaica, you honestly cannot hear a trace of an accent.

Remember one time I went downtown and was buying some earrings in a shop and the saleslady was passing remarks because she was saying I was uneducated because my patois was so thick ROFL ROFL

Even this past trip was talking to a Brinks security guard and he asked me how long I'd been away and I said since 94, he then asked me how comes I never caught the accent abroad

Can you please teach me Ja

Would be happy to!

I don't even think its the accent that causes the problem...it word placement...syntax and even meaning. A simple word can have an ENTIRELY different meaning in patois...or it will be a made up word that has no definition except to Jamaicans. I stopped typing it and trying to practice it as much because my standard English was suffering horribly. I was getting so lax and slipping into Ebonics and patois at the worst possible times. LOL.

I remember telling my boss to "low mi a beer phockery yuh ah chat...ole lyiad gyal" She looked at me like "What??" Meanwhile Jonesie was cracking up laughing on the phone. I forgot what I told her to make her smile and walk away without getting offended. I said "Jonesie see what you made me do? I'm going to get fired BYE!" She still laughs about it to this day.

:ot:

A finished his medical today. It only took about 3 hours...from 830 to 12 @ Mobay Hope. He didn't have to get any shots because they still had his file from 2004. He paid $8000 JA and $5000 for taxi fare.

I called Mobay Hope last night to ask if the $$ had to be in a combination of US dollars and JA dollars or if he could pay with credit card. The lady was a real angel...she told be either option would work. She told him to ask for her by name and she would pull his file from 2004.

Then, she asked me why he didn't come up back then...and was I sure that he was legit and didn't have any medical issues. I laughed and told her that he was fine and why he didn't come up. She said "Oh well you have a good one dear...a man with morale standards. Is he a Christian man?" I responded yes...we talked for quiet a while (why didn't I use a calling card  ).

A said that she escorted him through quick and told him that I sounded delightful and he better treat me right...and wished us God's blessing. He sounded so happy when he called.

So now on to Kingston for the police records...this taxi fare is going to be the death of me. GEEZ! :crying::blink:

Where are you Justie!!!??? How did the medical go yesterday?

Glad to hear it went well, Jawi -

On the subject of dialect and word placement - that is so true in so many situations. One of my friends moved to the US from South Africa - she had always been a straight A student, and started failing her english classes here - I helped her with editing her papers and she went back to As - it was in how she phrased things, she had the knowledge down but the teacher wasn't accounting for her language style.

I also had a hard time in Barbados - My ex had grown up in St. Lucia, and his accent / dialect was very different from many - but some of the phrasing and the way they talked - Such as answering the phone with "Good night" - even first thing in the morning! It took me a while to adjust

When A got back to Jamaica from Canada...he said some man came up trying to show/sell him so woodwork...pipes...coasters...you know little touristy knick knacks. He went off of course. Then, another tried to sell him some weed and asked if he wanted to do a tour. I was rolling! I told him before that he smelled like a barrel from farrin.

He doesn't understand why they don't recognize him as Jamaican...even with his accent and pure patois. I laughed until I was weak with tears. Of course he kissed teet at me before he finally agreed it was funny.

Kimmy sarcasim will start a fight every time...or when I say Whatever. oooo he hates when I say Whatever A.

O lord..can we write a book..dyam..he's gotten better with WHATEVER tho

MOTIVATE A CHILD... SUPPORT OPEN ARMS FOR JAMAICA'S FUTURE, INC. WE NEED A BRIGHTER TOMORROW !!!!!!
