Oh No! I remember riding through Tivoli Gardens and wanting to take pics...wouldn't you know my camera decided to get shy at the same moment. I will one day get to party in Kingston...I just know it. A won't go anywhere near town unless it is for business. He won't even agree to do Sting with me.:crying:

Did you hear about 8 men attempting to rob a bank in Ochi? He told me that they all got caught afterwards. I will have to find both stories.

As far as getting in trouble with hotel management, the manager just gave me a lecture on having a party on their property without clearing it with management and paying a fee. He said if it was a few people, then no problem, but there were 15-20, so I should've cleared with them first. I understood his point. I told him I didn't expect that many people, and we did let a few staff members know we'd have the cake in the [outdoor, beachfront] dining room. They didn't express any concerns. Plus, we cleaned up every last bit of trash, so it was like we were never there. Plus, I've stayed at that hotel several times, and have brought other guests with me & recommended other guests, and I plan on going back again. If I want to have a party in the future, I'll definitely check with him first. He agreed to not charge me a fee. [Pat me on the back for my negotiation skills.] So we ended on amicable terms with him wishing me a safe flight.

Okay, I see....so just a little slap on the wrist for the 'extra' guests then. They better give you some leeway considering the business you have & will bring them!

I don't know that area very well so I'm not sure what fill in the rest means. Did they drive off the side of the road or did they drive into a bad neighborhood?? Enlighten me please!

Speaking of Kingston, I have a last-minute mini freakout going on. I'm trying to find some names for hotels not too far from the embassy but that don't cost a lot (Hilton is pretty much out of my price range). Anyone from that area or familiar with the area near the embassy have any suggestions that I can start checking into tomorrow? Pretty please?? I checked out the 'JA survival guide' thread & really only saw the Hilton, one incredibly expensive place ($249 per/night) & some little cottages or something that didn't really appeal. Just need a decent, clean, reasonably priced ($35 - $70 per/night would be good) hotel that we can check into the day before and get up early & go to our 7 a.m. interview.

And one more question for those who have recently gone through this stuff. When checking on the visa, do they give you a # at the interview to check the status or is there something I should be researching beforehand to keep with my list of info?

Thanks everyone for any advice....it's getting close & I'm trying to (over)prepare!:blush:

Thanks, Lawny! I'm trying to get even cheaper than $80 per night & I'll have to check with one friend who lives near there before I go. He had some good cheap suggestions but I left what I wrote down at home (home computer has a virus & not working anymore) & I'm on the computer at work right now. I'm wondering if we could find the embassy, than start to drive out from there and drive around looking for some place cheap. I really want to spend as little as possible since we'll be getting up so early anyway & leaving.

Ells - Marlita had a thread some time last year “Kingston Jamaica Housing/Hotels, Where can I rent a place?” I haven't read through it yet but I saved it because I thought some good info might be in it. Here is the link, maybe it will help: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=151765&hl=Kingston+Jamaica+Housing

HeavenSent - on this journey even small things appear to be hurdles. Congratulations on your NOA1!

there is medallion hall and one near campion. i think that's the one trelawny is referring to. it would be perfect if u could get a room at that one (near campion) because the embassy is literally walking distance from there

it's a pity i won't be at home for a while but u can try one of those places. i'm trying to jog my memory for other places but most of them are just f#ck shops and i wouldn't feel safe there

btw in the case of the tourists they took a turn in a bad neighbourhood and got shot at multiple times but they weren't seriously injured

Ells I found this info searching the Yardies Part 13 thread

hubby and i stayed at the knutsford court for the interview. it's a little distance from the embassy but i paid a taxi driver{ recommended by the hotel} and it took no time to get there. they know the ins and outs of kingston so we were not in any traffic

we stayed at the Courtleigh for 2 nights. They are a little expense, but I like the security and comfort they offer. You can get some cheap rates for them on Hotel.com.

Good Luck!
