I had a *lightbulb* moment a little while ago today. I think I want to get married on a patio boat on Lake Shasta! Hire a pastor to do the ceremony on the boat while it's docked on shore, when that's done, send him on his merry way after we say our 'I do's', then go play on the water the rest of the day with BBQing, maybe a friend DJing good music and all that! Maybe even rent a Seadoo to tie up to it so we can take turns zooming around on the water. I've been trying to think of what to do for an August wedding since it will be so hot. I've always loved the lake and mister loves water too. I'm not having tons of guests so a 30 person deluxe boat with a slide and deck up top would be just about perfect!

Morning VJ Family!!

Thanks for all the calls and I know I owe a couple of you phone calls but I feel like I'm on a dead run this week!!

The day finally came - Anthony is here! Everyone went pretty smoothly on Wednesday, although he said there was a hard time because his visa is stamped for 6 months. He said a bunch of officers were gathered around causing some hoopla and checking the computer chatting bout why is the Kingston embassy stamping K1 visas for 6 months. As far as I knew that was the norm - you have 6 months to use the visa.

His arrival was good - I was standing in a spot where I could see everyone as soon as they walked around the corner so I spotted him first. But as soon as he rounded the corner his eyes went right to me and we both got a big goofy grin on our faces. I had my camera in hand but I couldn't move - just stood there grinning like a kid at a birthday party!!! He walked over and hugged me through the gate and I just deflated like a balloon - he was finally here.

Things have been going really well. The whole ride home his eyes were going a hundred miles an hour checking everything out. He did make me feel good Wednesday night when he said "I think I'm gonna like it here" because Whitehall is about as different from Kingston as Earth is from Mars. As soon as he got out of the car he asked why he never heard the pretty birds chirping when we were on the phone.

The biggest challenge so far has been food. He is working on his 3rd day of eating stew pork as he is not trying anything. But I figure when he gets hungry enough (or when the stew pork is gone!) he will try. I definitely learned the hard way awhile ago that I just ride out his stubborness, especially when he is the one most effected by it.

My kids officially met him last night and they loved him. They both had to sit next to him at dinner. And I loved him even more when I walked into the living room and saw him playing Dora Dominos with them and teaching them checkers Jamaican style! :luv:

I say it again and again, I never could've made this journey without all of you ladies - I love you gals!! (L)

Awwwwwww Island, I'm all teary eyed here at work. I am so happy for you!

Most trips, I come home, wash, and pretty much repack the suitcase - Not this one, lol - So I will be packing this weekend, since I am leaving from work Mon - I have to bring everything with me when I leave for work in the am

This is my MO too. If not then, at least as soon as I book my ticket the next day my bags are packed.

I'm a planner. I have this spreadsheet of everything to pack for a trip to Jamaica. I started it for my August 2008 trip, and have added a tab to the spreadsheet for each trip after (November, February, March, May). All I do is change a few of the clothes each time. I usually pack most things 2 weeks in advance, and put the final few items in there (like makeup) the night before. My spreadsheet has what I'm wearing every day & night of the trip, so I can just look at it and know what I'm gonna wear without having to think.

I think Steven was like :wow: when he first saw it, but by now he's used to that aspect of my personality.

I do this one too Nat color coded and all. I just change some of the items and accessories on the list, restock on things I used and I'm all good to go. I guess that's why it's so easy for me to just wash and repack. I even plan out the dinners for each night (Mon dinner, Tues dinner, Weds dinner, etc.) but I forgot to save my last version when I went this past Feb and I lost the hard copy. You should have seen how I was when I couldn't remember what I was fixing for dinner each night (we ended up just eating out.) A was wandering why I couldn't just go from memory and I told him because I had been planning it since August, I had it all worked out and couldn't remember that far back. That's what the paper was for. :bonk:

Seriously  ...wow mi caan imagine dat woudah gi mi headache...to much wurk fi a vacation. I pack one week before my trip, lock my suitcase and that's it. If it can fit or go in my carryon it's not going with me.

WHA??? Lawny, you can go to JA with JUST a carryon?? If so, how in the heck do you manage that??

I've gone to Jamaica with just a carry on before when they called an said my grandfather was dying, but don't forget that's where I'm from and I keep clothing down there. From I had my son, I just learned to pack light, I can always wash clothes and wear it again. I hate to come back with dutty clothes.

Last trip and tomorrow's trip, I'm only bringing a carry-on. Since I have every outfit planned to the half-day, I see exactly what I can wear multiple times to minimize packing. Plus, I bring travel-size Febreeze.

I do this one too Nat color coded and all. I just change some of the items and accessories on the list, restock on things I used and I'm all good to go. Color coded? Hmm, that's a thought, but I'd only do that if I remembered to print it at work. I don't like to use my color ink.

hey nat how are you

Very good! Just got home. About to read more of "Breeding Between the Lines: Why Interracial People are Healthier and More Attractive." Then I'll probably go to sleep early so I can wake up & it be TOMORROW. Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

Cool. I plan to do that myself next Friday. I had a trip planned but ended up postponing it, so I'll spend that vacation day at home making room in my closet & dressers for Steven.

:ot:

I'm halfway through the book and the author has put the pieces of his premise together. Next he'll go about proving his theory. Here's the premise:

  • Symmetry is associated with increased vigor and attractiveness.
  • High heterozygosity leads to more symmetry.
  • Interracial mating produces children with high heterozygosity.

He went into great detail on each of those points in the first half of the book. A lot of it was quite scientific. I'm glad to move on to the parts where he proves/tests his theory.

Alon Ziv is the author

Breeding Between The Lines: Why Interracial People are Healthier and More Attractive

From Amazon:

Product Description

Alon Ziv presents evidence from academic journals, world history, pop culture, and recent census counts to prove that interracial individuals have significant physical and mental advantages. From the sex lives of bedbugs to the remarkable feats of professional athletes, he illustrates how biology influences every aspect of our lives and how the right combination of genes can make all the difference.

The book also addresses why we choose the mates we do; why, in the past, brides and grooms looked more similar than different; and why this is all about to change. The shifting racial demographics of the United States signal that we are on the cusp of a mixed race explosion. Breeding Between the Lines explains what this transformation means and what we can expect for the future of race relations in America.
