Another question for people who pursued both IR-1 and K-3 at the same time.. both of these applications require the original docs.. so how did you deal with that? I can't send orginal documents to both of at the same time so what can I do about it?

Please do share!

Im doing both K3 and CR1, but I will probably withdraw the K3 and im not going to the interview.

But I think you can get certified copies for both of them. For example I had my Marriage Certificate and didn't want to send that original I had, so I got a certified copy, which has the same value as the original, sent that one in and kept the first original for myself. You can do the same, send the certified copy to the NVC and keep the original to take with you to the K3 interview.

:)

Dear Javeria,

Well, in most cases for k3, u don't need to submit the original documents in order to schedule an interview date. However, embassy provides u a packet which includes non-immigration forms to be filled out and a checklist along with a statement to be signed by the beneficiary which declares that u (beneficiary) r able to submit all the original documents at the time of interview....then u return this packet to the embassy... thats it....and u will be fine to get an interview date from Embassy...

Meanwhile, u submit the original docs to the NVC......and I must mention that, it is purely predetermined that I will not go for the K3 interview and it is surely to get a better date, therefore, not much to worry to have double originals/certified copies of the documents....

So, please submit the docs only asked from the embassy, and I am pretty sure that Embassy will not ask for the original docs right away, rather it will be needed at the time of interview...

Hope this will help u ...

Sonia

I had it narrowed down to IR until I received this email from this lawyer.. even more confused now :(

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I had to speak with a collegue about this one, because I generally don't handle the consular processing cases. He strongly recommends sticking with the K3 if you are able. I know that it means that your husband would come to the US and then have to adjust status here, but it appears to be a much wiser option. Testing his luck with the US embassy in Pakistan is not the best idea and that would be the case with the I-130. Plus, should things not work out with the K3, your husband would already be here and you would have a variety of other options, such as re-filing or fighting it out before an Immigration Judge.

Let me know if you have other questions. Hope this helps.
