Have I-130s been processing faster lately?

Hey guys. I recently mailed off my I-130 for my wife, and I just checked my bank statement and my check has been cashed on the 9th for the fee. I originally was planning on filing the I-129f also to make it a K-3, but I've heard many people say it is better to go for the CR-1 instead because of various factors. The only advantage i see with the K-3 is they have said it processes a month quicker usually, and for me, it is almost worth it to do, as that month is a month we can spend together.

However, I used to hear it would take a year for the I-130 to process, but from what I've been seeing on some people's timelines is they are getting the NOA2 in 1-2 months!! Is that right, or are those cases some kind of abnormality? Anyway any opinions are welcome. If I should mail the 129f or not. Thanks!

every case is different

nowdays the I-130 is much better ..faster and less expensive ..

k3 require adjustment of status upon arrival (1000$ nearly ) ..beside she cant work unless she gent authorization for employments (tht take time and money too ) ...

I-130 is super fast these days as u can see timelines ..and upon arrival ..the green card and SSN will be sent in mail in a maximum time of a month ..then she can work and do whtever u both wants .

Good Luck and read guides and ppl experiences

Yes, the backlog seems to be clearing and we see lots of I-130 petitions approved within 60 days or less. You'll regret filing the I-129F for spouse unless there is a specific reason for doing so. It is no longer faster.

Good, then I will just let it ride then. Unfortunately for me, my service center is Vermont, which seems to be months behind the CSC. But either way, its faster than the year it used to take. Thanks for the advice, I will go with it! THis site and all the people here have been a great help!

Many of us who filed with Vermont in January had our NOA2s in around 40 days (or less for some) and are just about done with the NVC now. We are definitely luckier than many people filing last year through Vermont. There's a bit of a backlog at the NVC because of the faster approvals, but it's not too bad. I for one am glad I didn't also file for a K3. It's a personal decision, but I want my husband to be able to work when he gets here, if the opportunity arises, even if it took a little longer to get him here. We've waited this long after all. Good luck!

I think the bad thing of approval before you were expecting is if you are not prepared for the next step, so as soo as you file your I-130 then you should prepare the documents for NVC especially if sometimes police certs can take a long time some places, or what not. I was fully expecting 6 month wait for I-130 because that seemed to be the trend, and I was happy to have it done in under 4 months! I was preparing along the way having my wife get passport, and police certificate and nototial birth cert, and signing documents and mailing them all to me. I emailed documents to her and then had some filled some blank so if I need to refile or if some were lost in mail I wasn't sitting waiting because it was MY fault! Good Luck!

This is just my thought, but it seems like they are just approving petitions from this year quickly and ppl who filed last year are still waiting. It seems like they want to keep up with 09 petitions and 08 petitions are like on the back burner. It seems like there is absolutely no reasoning to who they approve. Everything is SO random and no one knows if they will be approved in 28 days or 9 months, the system is completely screwed up, and yes, vermont seems even worse. It is so sad when someone has been waiting more than 6 months, and then loads of ppl are approved within a month. ANyways, best of luck on your petition and so sorry for venting....

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!
