Ideas for old Cds that you can't sell and don't want :)

So, I found about 50 OLD CDs that I have already tried to take to second hand stores and they do not want (thanks a lot!).

Upon googling I found some of these ideas rather than throwing them in the garbage. But a lot of the organizations seem to be based in UK. I am looking to send something more local-ish.

Here are some ideas, and I would love to here any other charities/environmentally sound ways to dispose of them if you have any.

Has anyone done the greendisk.com one or the SPCA one. I think I like the SPCA one.

Happy packing

OMG, that reminds me of the drunken neighbour at my aunt's Christmas party in Vancouver. She was going on and on about this wreath she'd made out of the plastic holdy thingies for the beer cans. My cousin, Sandi, was being very nice to her so the drunken neighbour told her to hang on and she would go get it to show her. We were howling! So, anyway, she brings it back and of course it's hideous. And my cousin was going "Wow. That's so lovely. And I'd only have to drink about 130 beers to make this." OMG.

Carrie, did you take the CD's to a used CD store or just to a second hand store?

OMG, I should send the drunken neighbour this so she can make one with the beer cans!

It's actually quite beautiful at the end. But soooooooo so tacky at first. I was like "OMG. That's just as bad as the beer holder wreath."

Search on line there are many places that will buy CD's. You can get anywhere from $0.25 to $4.00 depending on artist and popularity. However since the move to mp3's you may not have as much luck. Best bet is to convert them to .mp3 and donate them to Goodwill, Salvation Army or a skeet shooting range.

I like the skeet shooting range option best. Wonder how I can make that work??

On another note... should still keep the CDs that are ripped to your computer though. Otherwise, how do you provide proof that you BOUGHT the music and didn't download it legally? The district where I used to teach in AZ was raided by the FBI a number of years ago. Teachers had to produce the CDs or at least memberships to music sites. Otherwise, they were busted. Yikes!!! If I still didn't have friends in the district, I never would have believed that it happened. So, becareful before you dispose of your CD cases! Perhaps rip to MP3 and then pack cases into large plastic/rubber storage bins and put the bins in the basement, attic, or garage.

I don't want anyone to get in trouble for this! :)

WOW! Who drinks that much mountain dew!!!!!?????? But I too have to admit in the end it was actually really pretty?? DO I have an inner hick side???

Yes, when I was growing up I liked VERY random music, meaning not popular. I brought them to a few different Beat Goes On stores. Some sold, but now I am left with the rejects and don't know what to do with them.

Julybride, I know I have thought of that to! But, I do not have any music on my hard drive really. My hard drive crashed and had to replace it and have been too lazy to download music. Which explains my new ipod I have with 14 songs on it. LOL.

I think I'll try to donate them to one of those sites I mentioned. Or, Ill just send them back to my parent's basement to collect dust for another 10 yrs. That sounds WAY easier :D :D :D

For ANYTHING...you should go to yahoo groups and search for " freecycle" group in your area. If you live in an area where there are tons of emails, then you should perhaps sign up for the daily digest. It's always a good idea to give away something before asking for something. What's your junk is someone else's treasure!
