I'm still debating on whether to continue to file for a K3 or not.

I have a few questions though...

Correct me if I'm wrong, the K3 once it is approved goes to NVC and then NVC sends it to the embassy right?

BUT the I-130 (or CR1) is still going to go through the process. I mean, it gets sent to NVC once approved.

My question is, do we still have to pay all the fees for the CR1, even if for example, it got approved way way way later than the K3?

For example, the K3 is already here in US embassy in Manila and I already have an interview date... but the CR1 is just starting in NVC.

ANy idea? Coz I hate to waste all the money if I get to this point.

I have a feeling our visa journey will be rough... just base on the fact that I still haven't received the NOA1 and it's been a month since we sent our package.

Thanks!!

K, majority of us here decided to go with the CR1/IR1 due to the facts that its multi entry and will save you the hassle later. If you don't have much money then go to K3 as you only pay $ 131 vs $ 470. But the K3 will cost you more in the long run. The K3 process to NVC, once NVC assigned the case number that it goes to the consulate in your country and deal with your consulate from them on ( about 1-2 months for you to wait your interview). The CR1 process to the NVC, NVC sent to the consulate also, then you will be given interview date wihin weeks despite what you heard from the automatic machine. Its more of a personal choice... we went with CR1/IR1 less hassle for later on, EITHER WAY YOU WILL HAVE TOPAY $ 1036 TO TO DO YOUR AOS AND DO MORE PAPERWORK.

Some bad info was given. K3 is more expensive in the long run that is correct. The fee for AOS and EAD is $1010 which include the bio-metrics. You do not need to do this until either yoru SO wants/needs a job or your coming up to the end of the K3 visa. The K3 visa is multi-entry just like the IR/CR1.

Now the benefit of the IR/CR1 is that it is cheaper since when comparing its cost to the $1010 for the AOS and EAD for the K3. The IR/CR1 holder can also get a job much sooner.

The choice is yours.

can go up to alaska and pass through canada with a k3 anytime i want?

i get the whole money issues, thing is we're worried about the money... but we're more worried about waiting for so long a time.

we're just wondering if the k3 flies through faster and the cr1 lags behind, do we still have to keep doing it?

also, if we keep doing the cr1 together with the k3, what if i got my k3 visa already and before i leave i get my notice of interview for the cr1... can i still change my visa?

anybody who has an experience like this before?

You can abandoned either one. If the I-130 (CR1) get's approved before the I-129F, then pursue the CR1 vice verse.

also, if we keep doing the cr1 together with the k3, what if i got my k3 visa already and before i leave i get my notice of interview for the cr1... can i still change my visa?

It's hard to say which is faster. It's always better to check up on status to see which one get's approved first, then you can abandon the one that is still in pending status.

If you do the paperwork correctly the CR-1 will only be about 2 weeks to a month behind the K3. In our case I regret going with the K3 BIGTIME.

The extra cost , hassel and the stress of doing AOS wasn't worth saving a month!!~! :bonk:

@ op, now i am in the same situation as you. i was just about to send in my I-129F and realized i didn't have my letter of intent from my wife. Please let me know what you choose to do. I'm leaning towards the CR1, but may send in my I-129f as well. Good luck in whatever you choose t do :)

still confused.. haha we're waiting for Monday when my husband can call USCIS regarding our missing NOA1.

We're worried about our papers, but can't decide. If your case went to Vermont, you should try and ask people from VermontCS... they take longer time to process I think.

I'll let everybody know what we've decided to do.. for now, we're still in limbo.

Hi all,

I got I130 and I129f approval on the same date(Mar16).

I130 is still not at NVC but the operator gave a case number for I129F and said it was received in NVC on Apr6th and would be forwarded to Mumbai embassy. We have not received anything from embassy yet.

I wanted to pursue I130 even though it takes a little longer.I filed for I129f just incase I130 gets delayed but after getting the approval for both I want to go with I 130.Now my question is what do I do with K3?Do i have to write to embassy or wait for the interview date.I read in a post that K3 date can be changed to IR1 interview date, but the problem is that NVC has not even received my case yet. What is the best possible way to continue with IR1

Please help.
