Seriously? What's up with the rest of the world having NO clue how much weddings costs. My mom didn't want me to spend $400-500 on my dress either, and I think it's really cheap! Especially when I see people regularly spending 2, 3, 5, and 10 times that amount. I think that's really good...

I can understand your mom wanting to see the actual dress before paying for it though. Especially something that important.

And yes...count down to minnew!!! YAY!

It wasnt like she thought that the dress was too expensive, she just was afraid that she'd be spending all that money for nothing if my visa got denied... and even with a crummy POE denial in my record I doubt I will get denied.

(Or so I hope, I'm still scared trying to POE and adjust status without knowing it was illegal will screw me over. I'm a worrywart.)

Oh ok... sorry... I thought your mom was just being like my mom,and my fiance, who thinks that I should just get a $100 or $200 dress at Sears or something

So nice of your mom to be optimistic... haha omg... if someone told me not to bother getting a wedding dress in case I was denied, I'd probably cry

 my reaction exactly! I love the star wars one at Niagara Falls.... what the heck?!

My husbands grandma bought my dress :luv: Otherwise I would have had the same issues. My mom spent $200 on her dress and let me dad plan the whole thing. She had no idea what any of it cost... crazy woman!

Oh yeah, I just remembered how much my mom spent on her dress.

$1,200 dollars.

That's an awful lot on a dress, and this was 23 years ago!

I was willing to pay for my dress myself, but my mom isn't letting me.

I guess they're traditional in the sense that they feel like they need to pay for the wedding.

I'm going to try and not make it go past 5k.

We're only having like 30 guests tops, so that shouldnt be so hard.

But who knows.

Besides, she said that the less money we spend on the wedding, the more gift money we get... apparently.

I'd be happy if they just helped us with AOS.

Well, after some thinking and talking to a friend in the US and showing her the dress I want and stuff, I think I've decided to go ahead with a ceremony in May.

Even if my parents don't come.

I don't care if the ceremony's only like 10 people big, I dont care if I dont have professional photography.

I want to just find some secluded bit of beach and just do a small ceremony for friends.

I think it'd even be funny to do some vows that aren't very traditional, since we're not into tradition and I would want to make it fun.

I feel I wouldn't be happy with a normal ceremony. I want something so simple that I dont even spend 1000 dollars on it.

Who cares what my parents think. They can come down for the signing, but sorry mom, I'm having a ceremony in May whether you come or not :P

Even if I have to pay for it all.

Good for you! Do what YOU want, it's YOUR day. Enough with pleasing others, please yourself first!

Jill, you are SOOOOO right. :)

I've never heard of that place, I just had to look it up.

And they don't have Alfred Angelo.

I'm so set on that dress it's scary
