I'm going to make my wedding colours dark brown, dark pink and white.

I'm hoping hydrangeas come in pink... or I might get them dyed.

Pink and white hydrangeas with a brown ribbon to tie them together.

There's going to be hydrangeas on my cake too. I'm unsure if it's okay to put them on a cake, or I may go with gum-paste ones.

Here's a nice picture of some pink ones I found.

Pink Hydrangeas

EDIT:

Aaaaaaaand it turns out they're semi toxic. There's a form of cyanide in them.

Fake ones on my cake it is

Ok, I just typed out a huge rant about what I've seen re: the price of weddings (trust me, I'm not naive enough to think they're cheap.. I KNOW they're expensive, it just angers me a lot)... but I'll spare you all and blog it instead.. LOL

I do think your bouquet is very pretty Huggles.... but with this package I mentioned, I can't even tell them what I want to do with it. Just what colour. I've seen examples, but I just don't like it at all. It's really not me. It might suit other people, but not me. I've seen nice rose bouquets, but not the examples of ones I saw with that package. sigh.. I dunno. Since I'm having no decor, the flowers are basically it for me... I honestly am trying not to be THAT picky, but I'm giving up so much control over this day, and compromising so much on what I was hoping for... I just want SOMETHING that can be mine... :( I JUST started really thinking about flowers recently, and even THAT seems like it's something I can't have any input on. So far nothing about this day is at all what I really really wanted. Not even the dress (I mean, I really like it, but it's not WOWZA... LOL) I plan to dry my flowers somehow, and keep them afterwards, so I don't want to always been looking at it as a reminder of the sacrifices I had to make cause I was too poor to afford better ones... LOL Same with the photos! I don't want to look back at them and be sad about having to cheap out. Maybe with the flowers I could buy a few 'extras' and customize the bouquet myself!

Anyways... that's getting us back into the topic of do what makes us happy I guess.

I really just want white flowers... either calla lilies, or tulips, or lily of the valley, or something like that. I've even seem some made just of baby's breath, and they're so cute! haha... the bridal shop saleswoman said my dress kinda made her think of a snow princess (lol! #######?), so baby's breath would be hilarious, cause they look like snow tipped flowers. I think it'd make a good contrast to the California beach

Real_simple_weddings_flowers_5_350.jpg

Lily of the valley also look a little snow-tipped... and my parents had lily of the valley at their house so it'd be a nice piece of "home" (my parents just had to leave their house last month, after 20+ years, so I'm kinda depressed about that... I really loved that place a lot)

large_image.jpg

I also think it'd be awesome to have trilliums, since my fiance and I are both actually from Ontario, but it's illegal to pick them

Trilliums would be AWESOME.

They're such pretty flowers.

Maybe you can see if someone makes fake ones?

Oh. And did you know it's actually NOT illegal to pick them? :P

Quoted from Wiki:

"While it is a popular belief that it is illegal to pick the common Trillium grandiflorum (white trillium) in Ontario, in reality they are only protected in provincial parks and land owned by conservation authorities. However, the rare Trillium flexipes (drooping trillium) is protected by law in Ontario, because of its very small Canadian population."

During trillium season, my parents' backyard gets covered with hundreds of them.

It's an amazing sight.

ah.. I guess I just thought about the 'drooping' ones. Now I'm curious to see the difference.

*googles*

Ok, from what I can tell, there isn't much difference, except that the flexipes seems to have thinner petals, but longer thingies in the middle. lol

Of course, that all depends on if the people posting the photos were correct, but I tried to find ones that were in the majority.

I love trilliums.

I wonder if I can find a plastic one or one made of wood and painted.

That'd be a great going away gift.

I do have a cool picture of a trillium on my desk though. It was in our back woods and it was HUGE. The stem was perfectly straight too. The flash was a bit too bright, but it was a very nice picture.

I say you should do trilliums if you can get them :P

That petal website is really neat.

I think that'd be pretty to put on the tables or down the sides of the aisles.

Too bad I'm not having roses.

YAY!! I'm excited for you! My dress and veil were a little wrinkly from hiding in my SIL's closet for a couple months, So I took them out and let them hang and the wrinkles just fell out... it was like magic! But, I guess it would probably depend on the fabric the dress is made out of. Do you know anything with one of those little portable closet steamers? That might work. I understand you not wanting someone to ruin it! I would feel the same way. Next week sounds like fun! The cake tasting is the best!

The petals are a great idea! I went out and bought a bunch of boxed ones from Michael's and never ended up using them... I was going to put them on the aisle but after everything was set up just on the grass I changed my mind. I also have an aisle runner that was never used... so If anyone is in need hit me up! The rain sorta killed that plan.

Your bridesmaids bouquets sound kinda like mine! They had white roses with a couple reds scattered inside, then we had aqua accent flowers to match the color scheme. I know the rose ball candles you're talking about, they're so cute! I thought about getting some myself but was overruled in the favor department. Sounds like its going to be a nice event! Any idea what your numbers are like? I remember you being worried because you had no idea how many were going to make it. I went through the same thing... it was a huge pain.

Starburst, I LOVE your dress! I wish my body was sexy enough to pull something like that off  Everything looks great!!

Good to know re: the dress Huggles!! I'll have to remember that. How long did it take for the wrinkles to fall?

Side note:

I'm going to a Bridal Show today with my mom... kinda scared. lol Mostly because I know I'll have to explain over and over again why I'm not getting married in the area, and why I can't commit to anything, and don't exactly know my wedding date. I mean, I guess I can pretend I'm just freshly engaged and we haven't picked it yet, and lots of people do 'destination weddings'. I'm just such a bad liar.

Anyone have any ideas on what I might be able to find that would actually be useful? I have been to bridal shows before, and was even in one's fashion show one time (fun!), but it's a whole different perspective this time around! I don't know if any of it will be useful! I'm bringing a big envelope to put a bunch of pamphlets and cards in so I can sort them out later... haha Also going to show my mom the dress, since the shop is just a few blocks from here :D She's only seen it in pics so far
