Well, after some thinking and talking to a friend in the US and showing her the dress I want and stuff, I think I've decided to go ahead with a ceremony in May.

Even if my parents don't come.

I don't care if the ceremony's only like 10 people big, I dont care if I dont have professional photography.

I want to just find some secluded bit of beach and just do a small ceremony for friends.

I think it'd even be funny to do some vows that aren't very traditional, since we're not into tradition and I would want to make it fun.

I feel I wouldn't be happy with a normal ceremony. I want something so simple that I dont even spend 1000 dollars on it.

Who cares what my parents think. They can come down for the signing, but sorry mom, I'm having a ceremony in May whether you come or not :P

Even if I have to pay for it all.

Good for you! Do what YOU want, it's YOUR day. Enough with pleasing others, please yourself first!

Party in California?! Heck yes! After my negative southern California experience, I've decided I need to go back when its not February.

But really, I think that's a great idea Rhiann. Its important you do what makes you happy, even if your parents don't understand that. I bet they come around in time, after they realize what they would be missing.

I actually thought of all this without really talking to my fiance, since he's at work right now

I'll have to talk to him about it when he gets home, but I'm sure he'll agree.

Yay for SoCal parties! I was looking at a couple spots at Laguna but they are like...ugh...stupidly expensive. Now that I have more time I'm trying to find even more awesome venues lol

I'm hoping to just find a spot that I don't have to rent out or anything.

That might be a little tough though.

Agh I feel like pulling my hair out.

My fiance's semi siding with my parents, but semi siding with me.

He wants a ceremony, which I understand, but he wants a full out family thing... when I just want a tiny little thing for friends.

He thinks he can sit down and talk to my parents about it and talk them out of a whole ceremony/legal thing at the same time. Yeah right. My parents are impossible. Once my mother is set on something, it's too hard to talk her out of it.

My parents are firm believers that the marriage certificate signing and the ceremony must be on the same day. I am NOT waiting until March or April to cross the border, nor am I waiting 3 months to marry and Adjust status since I need to work.

Why can't I just have a family that's understanding

I don't want to have to give into a wedding date I dont want, a dress I dont want and being miserable during the ceremony and in the photos.

Where's a head smashing into a keyboard emote when I need it :bonk:

Who said SoCal party? I'm there! Damn....wish I was closer to SoCal! *sigh*

Ashen-Those pictures of the beach are gorgeous!

Rhiann-I am sorry about this wedding stress for you :( I hope you guys can come up with a resolution soon. In the beginning for us it was stressful as well, we were more than willing to JOP and skip the big wedding until a year down the road due to AOS and moving, but here I am doing it all in one shot, not the ideal way, but everyone in the situation had to make comprimises, at first it looked like a negative thing as its not what we wanted, but I am now happy with the way things have turned out. I am not saying give into your family at all, do what makes you happy!

Unfortunately, I think 90% of us have to deal with some things not working out for our wedding days the way we want them too. I'm struggling with accepting that it's very probable that I won't get the wedding date that I want (have I mentioned that? :P lol)... I still firmly believe you should stick up for what will make you happy in this event though. We have to go through so much ####### that 'normal' couples don't need to go through. If there's ANY way for us to hold on to SOME sort of control over 'the happiest day of our lives' we need to hold on fast. Do you parents insist on having 'everyone' there for your signing? Do they think having another ceremony for friends in May is a bad idea?

There will have to be some compromise, as I'm sure you've realized...lol But it becomes a horrible thing if the parents end up taking over the wedding day. I've never heard that ANYTHING good has come of that! And the problem isn't even that your mom is trying to be over helpful and shove her nose in with advice... she's just being stubborn!!

Hey hon, from you its just over a day drive to get to me! And you know you are welcome to visit us lol.

I gave up on my ideal date, but I'm still having my ceremony and civil seperate. Thankfully my parents dont really care and are of the opinion that as long as I'm happy, the day is perfect :D
