My parents' reason for getting married so fast was so silly too.

My parents got engaged on September 17th and married on December 27th. Why?

Because they didn't want to be married in the same year as my dad's twin sister.

Weirdos.

Yeah, May 15th 2010 is just ceremonial unless my visa decides to take forever then it'll be the legal one too.

Hoping it'll just be the ceremonial though.

cuz I don't know when I will get down there...and don't know when I will be able to get a job and I felt guilty about setting a date then when we don't know about our finances so I decided its just easier to wait another 1/2 a year for the bigger one and get what I actually want instead of cutting corners.

That's what we decided to do and it's working out really well. It's given us a lot of time to save and not stress about me finding a job and all of that. We are even living with my in-laws until we can get an apartment in a certain building we want. Plus, we are buying all new furniture and having a 200+ person wedding. I am not settling for anything! I am so happy that we spread it all out. Luckily I got a job a day after I got my work permit and now everything is falling into place. I still feel a bit stretched, but at least I know there is always time on my side!!

I'm going to a wedding tomorrow and I'm really excited! I love getting ideas and going to weddings!

Yeah we are living in the apartment he's in now, so we will be living with his roomy, but it will make it easier on us for that first year for sure. I just didn't feel right about wanting a certain date and worrying about getting a job etc etc on top of the AOS costs and my car and all that. It's going to end up being a lot better for us in the long run, plus March is an off month...as is April, so I might be able to get a better venue for cheaper!

I had a classic Vegas wedding. We met online in late 2004, started dating in 2007 We got engaged in October 2008, married in Feb 25,09 and we'd be talking about everything and we originally wanted to file for a K-1, but since he was being deployed, and his schedule in the military is pretty unpredictable...anyway, I went down to visit him a few weeks before he was deployed, and we talked about it, seriously, in depth, about EVERYTHING, and the next day we applied for the wedding license and married 3 days later. I had 3 days to plan. But his entire family showed up! (His family is about 25 people...) And some of his friends, who are now my friends too. :P

And what was amazing about it, was my family and friends back home got to watch it on the internet. (The chapel did internet broadcasting.) :D

But we're going to do a proper...party, in 2011 or so. :)

Is anyone getting a band for their wedding, or is everyone doing the DJ route? My MIL went to a wedding with a band and she claimed they were really great and we should look into a band.... but our tastes differ so I'm not so sure....

We did the DJ thing, although he really, really wanted a band. I wanted the DJ, because there's nothing worse than wanting a song to sound the way you know it to sound, and the band butchering the song. Ugh... that's why I went the DJ route. Ours was amazing!!! Good luck in making your choice. :)

I think a band could be something cool, depending on what type of venue you are using. If I remember correctly, you booked an event center right? We had ours at a hotel, so I didn't think a band would be really fitting to the location, the room didn't have a lot of extra space, and the people staying the night at the hotel probably would have hated us the next day! But for a big event center that specializes in putting on weddings and big parties, a band might be something to look into. If the price isn't outrageous and you love their sound then it could turn out really nice! And rather unique as well.

Yes we're at a wedding venue place.... I might see if we could see them in "action" before booking them, like sneak into a party where they're playing. I wouldn't book it without seeing them first!

Any band worth their salt should allow you to sneak a peek! :) Just give 'em a call and ask for their next few performance dates. Good luck!

I understand your frustrations Jill! I actually had a couple family members get together and ask me to change my wedding date 6 weeks before the wedding because the day and time I picked were "inconvenient" for them. Really? Words couldn't describe how angry I was inside! But I just laughed, what else can you do? Its unbelievable how bold and rude some people can be.

Minnie- isn't the hair trial exciting! That's when I started to really get anxious. Have you set a concrete move date yet?

Nope no concrete move date yet, I am getting really anxious though! Depends how much packing I can get done!

Pics of my trial hair! I'm hoping that the stylist in Omaha will be able to replicate it!

Im wondering how many of the Canadian side didnt have that many show up for their wedding in the states? When we were originally thinking of doing the K1 route, I felt so awkward knowing that 95% of the wedding would be his family, and friends...
