Year old wedding cake is the traditional fruit cake that is more dried fruit than cake, which is why it survives:). The other tradition was to take the top part of the wedding cake and serve it at the birth or christening of the first child.

Really eh? We received the top of our cake and everyone is telling us to freeze it and eat it on our 1 year anniversary. That just seems gross! And at your children birth or christening? Even worse! What if you want to wait a couple years before having kids? Wouldn't that make you ill?!

Rhiann- My sister is a photographer and she did my pictures for the cost of a plane ticket. Saved us over $2,000!

Embedding disabled on this video, it was originally aired on CNN, its about a couple who was ROBBED on the day of their wedding. It's so sick and disgusting, they even stole her grandmother's urn and ashes, which they were going to distribute on their honeymoon! Ugh!! It makes so so angry! I feel so bad for them! :crying:

That's terrible!

I can't believe people would go so far as to do something like this.

It's just things in this world like this that just make me hate society and its people (of course, not EVERYONE) more and more everyday.

OMG that's a horrible story!!

So my 2 closest girlfriends back home both got engaged over the past month. One is having a July 2010 wedding, the other August 2010, mine Sept 2010, and my husband's cousin is Oct 2010. Damn it's going to be an expensive year!

Oh my goodness! Thats packed!! I just found out my cousin's wedding will be in Toronto in August 2010!! Reeeallly hoping I have my GC by that time next year, oh and I've never been to Toronto, so it should be a fun trip!!!

My other cousin just got engaged too, his fiance wants a January 2010 wedding....if they do...I probably won't be able to attend :(

Oh yes....and my other cousin is planning a November 2010 wedding to Cuba......guess I won't be attending that one either! :(

Is anyone getting a band for their wedding, or is everyone doing the DJ route? My MIL went to a wedding with a band and she claimed they were really great and we should look into a band.... but our tastes differ so I'm not so sure....

We are going with a DJ, just because we like a variety of music as do our families, also we needed an MC. I don't think I would be comfortable with a band, I guess it would depend on the kind of songs played, with a band I would be worried about them being able to play our song requests that vary from country to Top 40 to 80's to Oldies.

I don't even think we're having a reception.

So no band or DJ for us

Might do the few traditional dances at dinner or something (since my dad is so insistent on dancing with me), but who knows.

I think a band could be something cool, depending on what type of venue you are using. If I remember correctly, you booked an event center right? We had ours at a hotel, so I didn't think a band would be really fitting to the location, the room didn't have a lot of extra space, and the people staying the night at the hotel probably would have hated us the next day! But for a big event center that specializes in putting on weddings and big parties, a band might be something to look into. If the price isn't outrageous and you love their sound then it could turn out really nice! And rather unique as well.

Yes we're at a wedding venue place.... I might see if we could see them in "action" before booking them, like sneak into a party where they're playing. I wouldn't book it without seeing them first!

I personally love bands at weddings... but it has to be a really GOOD one that can play a variety of music. I find bands very tasteful and charming... and I find some DJs can be a little bit cheesy.

However a good band in the Toronto area runs $5,000+ and if I had my way, I would totally do it. But, unfortunately we aren't made of money and we are already splurging on our photographer, so I am stuck using a DJ. A DJ will do the trick, but it definitely doesn't beat a band.

I'm looking forward to getting more of my wedding plans rolling. I've decided that I'm going to go Ivory invites with Navy and Gold accents, so I'm on the lookout for the perfect design. I'm thinking that I'll get them printed somewhere and then add the accents myself.

We are doing musicians for the ceremony and then a DJ for the reception.

I haven't read this thread in a while, but it only took me about 30 mins to find my dress. We bought it right off the rack (my dearest mom paid for it).

Here's a pic:

I'm not a size 2 like the model, but I think I look great in it. Alfred Angelo designed my dress too.

Here's also our Save the Date cards. I designed them myself. They are printed on magnet paper.

The only difference between this one and the printed ones are that "Save the Date!" is a little lower and I have our website at the bottom.

Our website is www.mikenlisa.net . It's not done yet, looks pretty bad right now, but Mike's gonna work on it this weekend I hope.

Pretty dress!! I love that detail through the skirt.

We just finished talking with the photographer today. I think we're going to go with the bridal pictures that are part of the package. She was saying that here in the South, it's usual to see a large picture of the bride, all dressed up at the reception. I'm so excited. She does great pictures.

Wow, 3 weeks tomorrow!!! We've been so busy ever since I got here a little over a week ago. Sure is different though in the South, than what I'm used to!! Oh well, still going to be a fun day!
