I went to each vendors website and contacted them individually. I actually found my wedding sites by asking my fiance and family members who knew the area what would be nice... and then I googled. Everything on the knot as far as venues were concerned weren't really what I was looking for at all. Everything seemed to cater to huge weddings of 200+. I'd suggest looking into something like a hotel site or a golf course, something along those lines, because those type of venues usually have different size rooms and areas for your wedding, then you won't be stuck in a huge banquet hall for 400 with 50 people... that wouldn't seem very nice. We're having an outdoor ceremony and then our reception is at a Sheraton, which had like 10 different banquet and conference rooms to choose from, meaning we have something appropriate for our size.

But, is anything really cheap in Orlando? Everytime I go there I end up spending a fortune! Actually, I'm leaving for Florida on the 7th :)

I think it's incredibly rude if you ASK for money in your invitations. I was invited to a wedding and it said on it "envelopes only". Excuse me? That is so rude! If someone politely asks you what you would like, you can say you prefer money but never explicitly ask for it. That's just my opinion anyway.

I totally agree. I've even seen bridal shower invitations that say "money shower" - which I think is tacky. If I end up not registering, I'll just put nothing. Because honestly, I think most people would just give cash anyways if there was nothing listed. Or they will call me or my Mom and ask and then we will just say that I would prefer money, but anything is fine!

Whenever someone writes "money shower" on their bridal invitation, my Mom always buys them Corning Ware! She cracks me up!

 Mom keeps on trying to convince me to have a bridal shower! I am NOT doing it!!!

Yup! It was incredibly tacky and rude! "Please make your gift in the form of a monetary donation." on the BOTTOM of the invite! The ceremony and reception were in the same place and the ballroom was absolultely beautiful, but the food, well I think everyone was unimpressed. The reception was at dinner time, not a lunch reception, they had sandwich meats, buns and cold salads for the dinner. It was not even summer, it was freezing cold in December. Then 2 bottles of wine on the table. Not even a thank you card for the monetary gift after the wedding either. The time on the invitation for the reception said 6 pm, so here we are thinking that the actual reception dinner started at 6 pm, instead there was an hour long cocktail hour, there was quite a gap in between the ceremony and it was a Sunday, so we thought maybe everything is starting earlier due to it being on a Sunday. I think it left alot of people guessing on what was going on and when. My parents were so ticked at everything and to top it off the cheque that they gave them was cashed the day after the wedding! and off for their honeymoon they went!!

My mom hasn't pushed me into a bridal shower yet

Though, we've had an engagement party. We got a couple gifts, but we didn't ask for them.

My mom wanted to do a bridal shower AND a wedding shower for me.

Ridiculous if you ask me. I'm not even a party person.

And I decided that either my mom has to accept my wedding date of May 15th or she'll never see her daughter get married. I could care less for having a wedding ceremony, I was just doing it for my family... but if my family (my mom so far anyway) is going to be like that... well, too bad. :hehe:

ah well my sister (my MoH) doesn't drink, so bar hopping wouldn't be any fun for her, and the girls and I are all dorky so it sounded like fun, and she liked the idea :D

 Your mother sounds fun!

I personally don't care if we get gifts or not, but being how it's Tim's first marriage, everyone want's to celebrate with him, and even though I didn't want to register anything, I did. I guess I agree that the positive side, is that you won't get 50 toasters! And that you should receive something that you would have liked anyway. The down side, is that what if only one person buys a plate from the collection you'd like! Then I'd have to go out and get more anyways! Oh well, we'll wait and see what happens.

We registered at Belks. I think it may become a favourite store of mine....along with TJ Maxx of course!

You can say no all you want to the bridal shower and/or bachelorette party, but if someone wants to throw you one you are totally stuck! Its hard not to show up after they do all the planning and invite everyone then say, "oh by the way..." That's pretty much what happened with me!

I'm so flippin irritated! The wedding coordinator at the church called today to let me know that the organist/pianist cancelled all of her October weddings. When I asked if she would be available she said yes I am going to do it, but I have to forewarn you that I will be 8 mos pregnant by that time and anything can happen. I do understand that, I wish she would have called me and told me that, and alot earlier as well, this is 2 months!! as I had to be the one to call her to confirm that she was available, not the wedding coordinator at the church. Then the coordinator gives me 2 more numbers to call that are affiliated with the church. The first phone call, the lady was so rude and abrasive and said she was not available, the second one said "I don't do weddings, there are other people that she should have given you numbers for." Thanks alot!

So I have one more person to call tomorrow, as the coordinator got back to me with someone whom she knows personally, and spoke to them directly and they said they were available. Unfortunately not affiliated with the church, so lets hope not more expensive!!

Awww sorry to hear that Minnew!!! It will all work out.....I've been amazed at how frustrated I've been with a detail or two...but usually an answer always comes along...

Looks like I'm getting a shower on Aug. 31! Tim mentioned something about it last night..and then said.."don't make plans!" I haven't even moved yet!! Kinda hard to know what I would have been doing that day anyways. Guess I'll be opening gifts! :P
