I'm impatient and curious, so I figure it people send me stuff early, they really should know better :P LOL!

I'd probably have my fiance hide them on me though, so I wasn't tempted...

Bah wouldn't let me edit.

I so far have nothing set in stone, no dress etc. I tried some on and found one I loved but it was over budget and I don't trust sending it with the movers, so I will be looking and planning more once I get down to the states. No flower girls for me either, no ring bearer - one of the guys will carry the rings with him. I know so far that Wes's dad is going to cover flowers and photography which helps HUGE on the budget. My parents are also helping in the form of cash, as is his grandma so it helps to take a lot of that pressure off as I'm currently laid off and we aren't sure exactly when I will be able to start working down there. I have my colors - red, offwhite and brown. I have my girls already picked out, know what favors we are giving out (I'm making Origami paper star boxes to put little mints and such in), I know what I want my centerpieces to look like and I actually found containers at the dollar store which is awesome because I might be able to keep each centerpiece at $5. So much other planning to do but its too hard to really do much from here other than look up locations to visit once I get down there, and make lists of dresses I want to try on.

I'm not having flower girls or a ring bearer either.

One of the best men will hold the rings.

And I don't even know if I'll be having bridesmaids, since I have no clue if the only two people I'd want as them can come.

What a bummer.

I'm not having any bridesmaids.... just my sister as MOH. And let me tell you, it's a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Best decision I've made!

I'd like to have at least one Bridesmaid/MOH.

I'd feel lonely since my fiance's having 3 best men, haha.

Bridesmaids was easy for me, I have a sister, my fiance has a sister and then I have my BFF since the 9th grade. We aren't having any flower girls or ring bearers either. I have a younger niece and nephew but they are very difficult to deal with, and I knew my sister wouldn't want to travel all this way with them, especially being so young. Its just easier this way, the best man will have the rings ready and I know they will be safe! We are sure not to have any wedding day temper tantrums either... well maybe from me :P

Danu- I know what you mean about being so far away! A lot of the little final decisions you just can't make from so far away. I've been doing a lot of wedding prep these past few weeks since I moved here! Thankfully I bought the dress when I was visiting back in December, so it was ready and waiting when I moved.

Well, my parents just ruined my chosen date.

They INSIST that they have to be there for the signing of the marriage certificate, since it's "the actual marriage".... so my wedding might be in December or January instead, depending on the visa process.

And I really wanted an outdoor wedding in May.

Thanks alot mom and dad. :(

I'd hate to double post, but I talked to my fiance about it and he's not happy about it either.

Has anyone had to deal with parents who try to ruin your chosen date?

It's my day, not theirs... and now they're trying to back out on the dress I want :crying:

I can imagine how you feel Rhiann! I wanted to have a small civil wedding when I first moved to the US, and then save the big celebration until I could go back to Canada the following summer but they wouldn't have it! They said they wouldn't support a wedding that wasn't "real." So then I found myself planning a wedding and doing the visa stuff at the same time... It wasn't impossible, but it wasn't ideal either.

Winter weddings can be really pretty! Where will you be moving again? Somewhere that gets snow? I've seen some really nice wedding pictures in the snow.

Well, my parents also really wanted to be at our civil wedding. They said it was the "real" marriage and wanted to be there to see the signing of our marriage cert. But I insisted they don't come, it took a bit of discussion but I won in the end, LOL. I just explained that this wasn't our wedding, it was just between him and I for AOS purposes. We wouldn't have married that soon if it wasn't for AOS, that's the truth. We would have waited a year or two. Anyway, I told them it was private for us 2, we had a small exchange of vows inside the JOP's house and it was nice.

I found out later from my sister that my Dad and stepmom ALMOST came and surprised us that day.... my sister talked him out of it, she said I would have been really mad!

I don't think I'll be able to talk them out of anything, since they're paying for every penny of this.

My mother also doesn't accept the fact that the civil wedding is for AOS purposes, my dad seems to though.

So I don't think I'll win.

And Huggle, it's in southern Cali, so no snow there... but too chilly to do an outdoor one

I am in the same situation, my family was a bit more supportive of the idea to have the civil wedding first, then the ceremonial, but his family was totally against it. So here I am planning a wedding from 1000 miles away and I haven't seen my fiance since April!! I am quitting work a few weeks earlier than expected to get myself organized and deal with some of the wedding stuff before I move down, because there is going to be ALOT of stuff to do once I do get there. I'm so excited to see our wedding pictures because of the fall foliage in October!

We are currently trying to decide whether to take a mini-honeymoon after the wedding to Las Vegas as there is so many great deals right now with the economy being crappy, or save that money for our real honeymoon to Maui next year. If we went we would have to go to Vegas a few days after the wedding for prob 4 day/3night. I just hope we have both recovered from the stress and exhaustion of the wedding by then, I wouldn't want to sleep the first day away in Vegas! Any advice? I am on the fence right now about it, we should be able to afford it and all, with his bonus and my pension.. I just keep thinking what if? It takes forever to get my EAD.

That's so funny, as that's exactly what we were gonna do! Vegas after our civil. We didn't end up doing it, because of cost. We were just worried about money and it ended up being the right decision. We're saving for our wedding and honeymoon instead!
