Well our wedding reception is going to be almost 2 years after our legal marriage, so as for the wording, we're not mentioning "marriage" on the invites. Our save the date cards say "Save the date for the wedding of our names" because it's our wedding they are coming to! Since we never had one. We're not using the words marriage on the invites either

They did photos with traditional Chinese costumes

I was going to ask if you are going to do the trad Chinese photos with costumes. Check my thread in the China forum about it. It is just about a must-do!

Hm, we might, I'm not sure.

The place where my fiance's sister got them done did a really good job.

I think it'd be a nice thing to do for the sake of doing it.

Yeah, the books are gorgeous and the bride gets royalty treatment (at least in China). We're doing ours this Fall in Hunan, before we get married. We figure we will be too rushed after the interview in Guangzhou.

moving right along

You make it sound so simple! Thanks. Getting through this visa process must be making my brain go in circles and nothing is simple anymore.

Happy wedding planning! We just did a big wedding for my youngest daughter and it turned out beautifully. It doesn't hurt that we really like the groom.

I got my save the date cards today  They are so pretty! I am going to go to Michael's and buy little magnets and glue them on the back of each card so they can be put on my guests fridge; as the ones I wanted didn't come as a magnet

Also, they came with a note that says:

"To help maintain the fresh look and feel of your invitations, we recommend that you take them to the post office to be hand cancelled. The postal service typically uses machines to speed the process of cancelling the postage on mail. These machines often leave tire trackes that can cause indentations on your inserts. Not all post offices will do this, but it's worth asking for"

Has anyone heard of that before, being hand cancelled?

I wouldn't bother personally. Even if they got hand cancelled, who is to say they won't get trampled on in the mail. I'd just take my chances! But I'm pretty laid back like that.

I want to get some save the dates soon... I can't decide what invites I want though and I want them to match!

I'm back! lol I went out of town for the rest of the weekend with my family (mom, dad, brother, sister in law, niece and nephew). It was really fun. We went to Niagara Falls. Sad that the fiance couldn't be there, since this is the last family vacation we'll have for YEARS, literally) but I kept him connected anyways via txt msgs once in a while. lol

Anyways, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who had some tips and support re: my dress situation. lol I'm sure it will all work out eventually... hopefully without too much compromise and wasted funds. The deposit I put down wasn't A LOT, but 'a lot' is relative. It's still a lot to me, since I can't really afford to spare much change.. speaking of which, I'm unfortunately not in a position to save extra money for it (even a small amount like that... any savings are being spent on taking this leave of absence next month, and also on immigration and moving expenses), but am also glad now that my mom wasn't with me  She even thinks that my original budget is too much (which was like.... REALLY LOW let's just say), so she would've been more cheap than me and probably had me shopping at Walmart for a dress... :protest: (I was looking for a little emoticon guy that was puking, but couldn't find it so this is close enough. LOL) She also didn't seem overly eager to come with, which was kinda disappointing actually. So i'll just keep shopping with my friend, because she's super excited. I could shop in the US when I'm visiting my fiance I guess. That's a good idea, if for no other reason than it would allow him to see what I'm up against here.

Also.. I want to clarify that I AM getting some support from my fiance, and we had a long chat about things, and he understands why I am frustrated. When I wrote those 2 original posts about this I was REALLY upset, to the point of tears, and angry and stressed and wasn't feeling the love. lol But we're fine... I've been dealing with a lot of things all at once lately, and he's worried that I'm taking on too much, and that I really could've used the money elsewhere. oh well. Apparently he also has some surprises for me when I am visiting him next month (omg it's actually next week!!!!) so we'll see what that means. I really don't like surprises... but he seems excited. lol

I'm glad you guys are bringing up the topic of wording of Save the Dates and what not... I've been wondering what to do about that too, since our reception is 6 months after the wedding and we're not having another ceremony. Just a reception.

Oh, I've also been wanting to ask... does anyone have a wedding website? Did I ask this already? I can't even remember. lol I'm trying to find a good host, but there are so many. I want a free one, and I found a great one that has TONS of features, but crappy template designs (www.weddingannouncer.com). Go figure :(

Aww my home! (well super close to it) The last time I saw the falls before the move I bawled my eyes out, is that a little weird? Its just, the place you know? Everything happens at the falls where I'm from. First date, first kiss, where we spent prom night, where I spent so many birthdays, my bachelorette party... Just everything! Its such a sentimental place for me. I miss it. But I hope you had a great time!

July's website is pretty awesome! I have mine on theknot and its just ok... It gets the job done but its nothing to flashy. I really don't think anyone reads it anyways

Now that I think about it, I will get my invites hand cancelled. I got a friend's invite a few weeks back, she made them herself so at first I thought she just did a horrible job (streak marks at the top right/tracks) I thought it was her printer. But now I realize it must have been the post office indentation. Kind of ruined the look of the invite

I second theknot.com, not as great templates and stuff, but still very pretty, gets the job done. I don't really know if guests read whats on the website, either, they may just "look" at it. I have only had 2 RSVPS from the Online RSVP on the website, and 1 by email. I did not want to bother with response cards, everyone knows how to send an email right? Even if they can't figure out the RSVP on the website.

PM if you want to see my website!

There was only 1 older guest that we were not sure about, so on the response card we put a phone number and an email address. Everyone other guest had an email address and knows how to use the internet.
