Yeah I have seen dollar dances done, Ive only seen it in the U.S. I definitely will not be having one, I mentioned it to my fiance and he thought it was tacky, he didn't really want every man in the house to be dancing with me. We are not having a gift registry, we have alot of household items and I am not a fan of china or crystal, at least I have no use for crystal right now. If I do end up buying some it will be later on when I can actually USE it. I am not sure how I am going to answer the question by people who ARE NOT going to be able to make it to the wedding and WANT to buy a gift instead. Ive already had a friend ask me. The topic of gift registry is not even listed on our wedding website, I don't really feel the need to say anything about it, people will get the hint, I hope. I don't really like the idea of a honeymoon registry either where people make monetary donations.

The honor of their presence is enough for all the travelling they will be doing, but again I already know of family members and friends who have expressed their inability to come. Like TimandJoyce said I don't want "useless gifts" either when I did not have a registry, and I cannot return it. Maybe I will have to make a statement on the website. The couple requests no gifts....of course that doesn't stop people either. I know this all probably sounds like I am extremely ungrateful of those who may not be able to make it and want to send a gift, but thats just not what we want. Our biggest gift is you are able to take time and $$ to travel and come, as its an OOT wedding for the overwhelming majority of the guests, and they are all our close family and friends. My mother is also the same way, insisting that I have a registry to have gifts from people so that I can remember who got it for me when I use it.

a dollar dance is where the bride and groom are out on the dance floor and people line up to dance with them and when it is their turn they take their dollar and pin it to the bride or groom...

Humm I have only seen the version where male guests pay a dollar just to dance with the bride, but they don't stick it on her, they hand it to her or the groom I think.

I'd never heard of dollar dances either, but I LOVE the idea of dollar kisses!! Kinda prostitutey though, if you think about it....

 sorry! I re-read what I wrote and made it sound like the person that donated money was the one that kissed the bride or groom!! My mistake. Only the bride and groom kiss each other!! Most receptions I've been to, during dinner you always hear someone start to tap on the glass/cup with a knife/spoon and everyone gets going. They keep it up until the bride and groom kiss, and then the racket stops! ( Until next time)..

This way, someone drops money in a box/ glass/ vase, etc, and they kiss.

Another way is the money tree. A bush that's sent around and everyone puts a dollar ( or hopefull more... ) into it. Just make sure it's not too dry, and doesn't go near the candles!!

hahaha it's ok TimandJoyce.. I knew what you meant, but still found it funny ;) lol I kinda hate the clanking forks for kissing... We're not having a regular sit down dinner type thing anyways, so I don't know if that would be possible!

And I have to say... those dollar dances would totally not work with loonies :P

Actually, with Dollar Dances, the money is to go to the bride and groom for their honeymoon... as a way for people to help send them off with some money in their pocket. LOL I'm not a fan at all of Stag N'Doe activities, but I suppose, in some way, one could consider the Dollar Dance something similar. It is something I've grown up with (as a USC) and friends all had them at their weddings. To further explain, someone comes up to the bride or groom, hands the BM or MoH $1, and dances for about 30-40 seconds with either the bride or groom. Sometimes, people pay $5 or $10 or even $20... the more the person pays, the longer the dance (without getting carried away).

As for it seeming weird... if I'm inviting the people I want to the wedding, then I know them all. So, it shouldn't seem weird. Duncan has met all but about a handful of the people, so he does already know them and it shouldn't be weird.

Anyway... just my 2 cents worth. :)

YAY!! The bridesmaid dresses came in!! Now I just have to wait a few more days for them to be shipped!! Ooo and my slippers too! I bought a pair of white high heels, but I can't decide if I want to wear them or the white slippers with beads I tried on and ordered from DB. They were sooooo comfortable! Its going to be a long day and alot of standing, I would much rather be comfortable!! No ones going to see my feet until the garter removal anyways!! The downside..the seamstress will have to do alot more hemming...

Go for comfort! You don't want painful feet to ruin your wedding night, you know! You want to be able to dance and walk around as much as you want!

Cute!! My plan is to wear the heels for the ceremony and the pictures, then slip into some slippers for the reception, after all the formal stuff goes down. I got some really small heels, so I don't think my feel will hurt to bad, but comfort is where its at!

Funny you say that about the dollar dance July, because I've seen then them at weddings here in Canada but my fiance has never heard of them before and thinks they're weird. I'm not really sure if we'll do it or not, but I think my dad will make an impromptu one even if we say no... he's like that. In weddings I went to in the past I had no problem paying some money to dance with the groom, I actually thought it was a fun concept! At my moms second wedding I paid to dance with her like 3 times, it was funny

As for shoes, go for comfort! I'd like to wear heels, but my fiance is about the same height as me (he claims he's an inch taller, but whatever.. LOL), and I'm one of those weirdos who wants to appear shorter than her man, so I'll be in flats (or very slight kitten heel or something)... I blame Disney.

I plan to wear heels to my ceremony and for all my pics and then get some really fun flip flops or something flat for the dancing portion of the night... by that time, I'll just let my dress drag!
