Good luck July! The POE thing is way easier then I anticipated. And honestly, being here and adjusting is proving a lot easier then I expected... so far anyways.

I had an appointment at the Sheraton last night and we finalized our menu choices and did some taste testing. Everything was so good! I'm really happy with the quality of the food. However, I now have a slight dilemma. They offered us a different room... The one I have now is a little small. It would have been perfect for a 35 person wedding, which was the original plan, but now we are looking at about 45-50. Its a little small, but it has a fabulous outdoor patio that would be a great extension to the party. On the other hand, the new room is the ball room, just partitioned in half to fit the size of the event. It looks much nicer, with chandlers, and a nicer colored carpet and walls. Its bigger and would fit 50 comfortably... but it lacks the outdoor space I really loved with the other room. She's holding both of them for me until I decide... I'm leaning towards changing and moving to the ballroom, because I'd hate it to be cramped, but I'll miss the patio...

Well, since I've been to the DTC, here are my thoughts.

Go for the ballroom. The open air atrium area is quite nice and if people want to go outside, that is still an option. But, than again, the patio area would be quite nice.

SOOOOOO..... Here's your tie-breaker question... Which ROOM is closer to the RESTROOMS??? Go for THAT room! :)

 I had the same thought! But guess what... They both have restrooms just outside the doors. Its a tie! I was thinking about waiting til I had a more concrete head count to make the choice... But I'm leaning towards the switch..

Well, then I'm of absolutely no use! But, in all honesty, keep leaning... I think you will be quite happy with the ballroom. :)

So, I booked the LAST of our honeymoon reservations today. I was able to get a RESORT on the BEACH for $100/night on Priceline. It was a total gamble and it paid off!!! Yea!

Now, just to get my fiance' over here on Monday. *sigh*

Yay that's great! I hope that's a happy sigh, doesn't sound like a happy sigh

It is a happy sigh. It is just that my entire world will change starting on Monday. His world is going to change too. I know that... the change is good, too. We're both really excited, for the move, too. JUST, a change. A major change, from being Miss Independent to Mrs. Somebody (almost). :)

Yes, it's going to be a huge change and life adjustment for the both of you! But, well worth it and you have your wedding and wonderful honeymoon to look forward to :D

Same in PA, you do not need witnesses. All the weddings I've attended in Canada, the bride and groom sign the marriage cert, pose for photos, the attendant(s) sign as well. But here, the signing is done in private.

I have to keep reminding myself that I can't please everyone and I can't worry about what everyone is going to think. Not everything has to be done the traditional way, and I am going to do what I feel is best for me. I just know I will have headaches down the road with bridesmaids, I know it. So I'm saving myself the heartache now! Thanks for everyone sharing your stories, it's nice to hear.

yeah..that was one of the things that got me too!! I couldn't believe it. I told Tim that that was one of the best times for pictures!! So..I said "then when DO you actually sign the license?" ( Not sure of the rest of the provinces in Canada, as I've only been married in BC, but I'm used to signing the registration at the ceremony, not a license!). Tim shrugs and says, "well, the day of the wedding. Usually before the ceremony, or sometime during the reception." So I figured, ok...then lets throw a little Canadian tradition, and still have a table set up and once the "you may now kiss the bride" part is said, we go sign the license if front of everyone! Yeesh how hard can that be. So I think he doesn't mind. I haven't quite yet talked to the minister yet, however, he's Tim's brother so I have an "in"...

How exciting!! We're still in the "where are we going" for that stage..we've talked about a two week road trip around the eastern States, but then Tim shocked me the other day by saying if we find a good deal then maybe we'll go to Hawaii!! That is where we met. I told him I'd be happy either way.

Hey sorry for the delay, we're in France now so I didn't have the time to update! Our weding will be Civil/Legal wedding. And we'll have another reception in France during the summer 2010 but no ceremony...

Oh wow. Lucky you!

I had my last shower today. Yea! Those are over! lol But, now we're getting boxes delivered in the mail. Should I start opening them now so I can send Thank You notes right away or should I wait until the day after the wedding and we can do all of the thank you notes then? Perhaps we could open the boxes/gifts that are being delivered from friends/family who will not be attending. The gifts that come in from people who will be attending, we hold on to???

Hmmm...?????

Open the presents! Then write the cards and set them aside until after the wedding. Saves you doing it all in one big (oops... I originally wrote pig... lol) pile.

Good choice to forgo the wedding party, Jill. No one needs more stress in their lives.

and then your fiance tells you the SAME day that one of his friends won't be coming over b/c he has had over a year to get a passport to come to the US from Canada and now (with 32 days left) says he can't afford to get a passport.

:o It's only 80 bucks, for pete's sake! :bonk:

So, I booked the LAST of our honeymoon reservations today. I was able to get a RESORT on the BEACH for $100/night on Priceline. It was a total gamble and it paid off!!! Yea!

:o That is AWESOME, July! Where are you staying? Don't worry. I won't call you. But if there's a webcam would you mind standing in front of it and waving while you're there?

I had an appointment at the Sheraton last night and we finalized our menu choices and did some taste testing. Everything was so good! I'm really happy with the quality of the food. However, I now have a slight dilemma. They offered us a different room... The one I have now is a little small. I'm leaning towards changing and moving to the ballroom, because I'd hate it to be cramped, but I'll miss the patio...

Go with the smaller room! There's nothing nicer than being able to be outside and still be part of the party.

SOOOOOO..... Here's your tie-breaker question... Which ROOM is closer to the RESTROOMS??? Go for THAT room! :)

You know, it's a recurring theme I read (and have experienced) here all the time..... the fact that your friends and family get really upset about you moving and start treating you differently. It makes me sad. :(

It makes me sad too Krikit.... not my family though, they are wonderful and supportive 110%. It's my friends, they grew hostile that I was "leaving the group"..... I'm not sure what it was. Now, I get sarcastic remarks about how "it must be nice" not be working and having my partner support me.... Jealous much? I didn't choose to be unemployed, I am looking as hard as I damn well can. Now leave me alone!

What's with places not calling me back? I've e-mailed & left voice messages at both the Marriott and Holiday Inn which are close to my wedding venue. I want to book a block of rooms, it's important since I'll have many out of town guests! Anyway, I started in May trying to reach someone and still NOTHING! I just called the Marriott and asked to speak to a manager, of course I got voicemail. Sheesh, I am basically GIVING you 15 rooms minimum, don't you want that business!?

Wow thats a great rate! I also have a room block with Holiday Inn, its also where our reception is going to be held. Our rate is 105.95. They are giving us a jacuzzi 2 room suite for the bride & groom the night of the wedding for free. I just hope that the guest rooms are far away from our suite! :P Maybe I should talk to our coordinator!:lol:

 My thoughts exactly! Ours is at a Sheraton and we have a suite on the club level... now suddenly my fiance's parents have requested a club level room. We told the coordinator to make sure they weren't beside us... preferably down the hall, the furthest away... :P

Congrats on getting the hotel stuff sorted out Jill! My family members are annoying me with the accommodations stuff. The Sheraton is normally $180 a night, and we have a rate of $130, which isn't the cheapest but its not outrageous. All the hotels in the area are comparable in price. Everyone keeps asking me for a cheaper hotel. They don't understand, its an expensive area! Sorry, it just is. You're not going to get anything for under $110, so you either need to stay somewhere far away and drive in or pay it. For an extra $20, stay on site. It makes sense to me, but apparently i'm not helpful.
