My friend just got married two weekends ago, she had her sister as her Maid of Honor and her two neices as flower girls and her husband had his uncle as Best Man and two brothers as groomsmen. It never looked funny at all only having one lady and three men standing up there, you just knew they had asked close family to stand up there with them and the ceremony was still beautiful.

In my first and second marriage I we only had one attendant each. Gee...doesn't that make me sound awful!! "my first and second marriage" I was real young in the first one, ended in divorce, but the second was death..so, maybe that doesn't count.

Anyways..we are having FOUR attendants each. Tim wanted it that way. Right. I hardly know anyone close enough that lives in SC to have! So, his sister will be my MOH, only because she's helped out so much already. She drove me around forever looking for the patterns and material. We got them when they were on sale, $.99 instead of $16, and the material was $2.99/yard. She's also making my dress.

The other 3 bridesmaids are coming from California, Alberta, and BC.!! *Whew*. I had the think of people that I knew could be there. *Actually there is one I'm a wee bit worried about...but I won't worry until closer to the wedding...LOL* Worst case scenario, I'll be one short. We'll still make it work.

I have a bit of a dilemma with the bridal party issue actually... I'm glad you guys brought it up. lol

My groom-to-be is an only child, so we don't have the siblings to be able to ask from his family... on my side, I only have a brother, and he and his family (along with my young niece and nephew... there goes my automatic ring bearer/flower girl ARGH!) are moving to CAMBODIA this summer, and likely won't be attending our wedding at all. :(

Also, I don't actually have a "best" friend, but my fiance and I have a lot of mutual friends... I am hesitant to even ask one of them though, because it will probably cause some drama (one of the friends doesn't approve of the relationship, even though she's good ""friends"" with both my fiance and myself, and she'd probably be upset.. and has caused alot (A LOT... repeat... A LOT) of drama about us already... i.e. bursting into tears at our surprise engagement announcement at a party, anyone?...)

To be honest, since our legal wedding will include our parents, and they will be the legal witnesses for the wedding, I don't know if I want a bridal party AT ALL for the other ceremony and reception that we have later... not even best man and maid of honour really... it's sad, but I don't feel like I'm close enough to anyone in my life to want to ask them to do something that important with me... :\

The other problem is that I won't even be in Canada at all between the legal wedding and our fun/party thing 6 months later... so I can't even really plan stuff WITH any bridal party anyways!

You guys are all smart.

I'm actually having a huge uneven bridal party. I have 7 girls and 4 guys. Yes, you read that correctly 7!!! My issue is that I don't have a lot of friends, but the friends that I do have are all very very very close. I contemplated having family only and then I figured, what the hell, I'm only doing this once, might as well just have everyone since no one is concerned about the money since it's in Toronto and there is no travel. All they need to do is get a dress and their hair/makeup if they want to. So far I haven't had any drama, but if anyone wants to drop out, I'm totally okay with that! I actually wish a couple would drop out so that it would be more even!

Anywho, now that we're in Vegas, I kind of wish we would've just had a wedding here at the Bellagio. It's so beautiful.

 That cracked me up! I don't think there is anything wrong really with an uneven bridal party anyway, it doesn't have to be equal I don't think. Glad you're having fun in Vegas, I've never been.

JillA I think you made the right decision, its the decision I should have made before asking any of my friends. My friends here in Canada unfortunately said they could not afford it, and to be honest I don't think they fully support me moving to the U.S.A. As someone else said in another thread, I am already beginning to be their "last call." I can't say that I have "best friends" just alot of friends over the years, also what made it hard is I lived in the U.S while they were still in Canada. We ultimately decided on two attendants each. My MOH is my sister and the second is a friend from the U.S., who was is good friends with my fiance and I. His best man is his dad and his groomsman is his close friend from GA. Drama free!!

That's sweet!! I'm sorry, but I just really like that thought! I'm sure it's been done before, but I've never heard of it.

It's so important to always remember that a wedding is the bride and grooms...not everyone else's. And how you choose to get married is up to you! Legally, we didn't even NEED any attendants, because in SC it's only the minister, bride and groom that sign the license. (Here at home we needed witnesses). Actually, I sure found it interesting how weddings AREN'T the same all over...wow they do a few things different down South!!

Yeah I had only seen the father as the best man once, my mom was not for it, but like you said its our wedding, not theres. She is just worried how it will look because my sister is the MOH. It doesn't matter to me one bit.

Thats the one thing that we have learned to do is put our foot down with our families because both of them have such different ideas about traditions, its about us, not them. I think everything is good again, for a while we were both feeling like "whos wedding is it"...and dreading our wedding day. I just got an email from the pastor today with the ceremony!! Yay! Now to go over it with my fiance and hash out the details!! I am so excited!! I read our vows and the exchange of rings and I started balling...I am going to be a mess the day of if I am crying about them now!

Same in PA, you do not need witnesses. All the weddings I've attended in Canada, the bride and groom sign the marriage cert, pose for photos, the attendant(s) sign as well. But here, the signing is done in private.

I have to keep reminding myself that I can't please everyone and I can't worry about what everyone is going to think. Not everything has to be done the traditional way, and I am going to do what I feel is best for me. I just know I will have headaches down the road with bridesmaids, I know it. So I'm saving myself the heartache now! Thanks for everyone sharing your stories, it's nice to hear.

Good luck July! The POE thing is way easier then I anticipated. And honestly, being here and adjusting is proving a lot easier then I expected... so far anyways.

I had an appointment at the Sheraton last night and we finalized our menu choices and did some taste testing. Everything was so good! I'm really happy with the quality of the food. However, I now have a slight dilemma. They offered us a different room... The one I have now is a little small. It would have been perfect for a 35 person wedding, which was the original plan, but now we are looking at about 45-50. Its a little small, but it has a fabulous outdoor patio that would be a great extension to the party. On the other hand, the new room is the ball room, just partitioned in half to fit the size of the event. It looks much nicer, with chandlers, and a nicer colored carpet and walls. Its bigger and would fit 50 comfortably... but it lacks the outdoor space I really loved with the other room. She's holding both of them for me until I decide... I'm leaning towards changing and moving to the ballroom, because I'd hate it to be cramped, but I'll miss the patio...

Well, since I've been to the DTC, here are my thoughts.

Go for the ballroom. The open air atrium area is quite nice and if people want to go outside, that is still an option. But, than again, the patio area would be quite nice.

SOOOOOO..... Here's your tie-breaker question... Which ROOM is closer to the RESTROOMS??? Go for THAT room! :)
