Sorry... I really should've clarified. By wedding 'planner', I meant like.. day planner... booklet... thing. Not a wedding planner PERSON.. I'm not wasting money to hire a 'planner'... I'm just looking for a good book to be able to write stuff down. LOL And/or a good wedding planning website... i.e. frugralbride.com or something

My bad... I wasn't able to explain that earlier, cause I can't do VJ at work. But thanks for your tips!!

I am sort of looking forward to planning this, but also REALLY don't want anything fancy... I don't really have anyone I can co-plan this with, which makes me kinda sad :( I mean, I guess my mom, but even so, she lives an hour and a 1/2 away, which isn't FAR, but far enough to make it difficult to do things together with her. Oh well. There's of course my fiance, but he's farrrr.... And doesn't get why we'd need to come up with any decisions right now since our reception with family/friends isn't until next summer. lol

Theknot does have a really good checklist/tracker tool. I have found that site a bit traditional for my taste, but to each their own. Sites I have loved for planning are:

offbeatbride.com (I blog there a lot. Some ideas are too wacky for me, but it has given me the confidence to just go for what I want even if it doesn't for the "wedding" mold". Also it is a nice group of women who are very supportive. There is an Offbeat Bride book, too).

weddingbee.com

indiebride.com (the kvetch forum; the rest of the site is defunct)

stylemepretty.com, thebridescafe.com, greenweddingshoes.blogspot.com for tons of photo inspiration.

Congratulations Sapphire! You two look great! Enjoy your honeymoon.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I had my last shower today. Yea! Those are over! lol But, now we're getting boxes delivered in the mail. Should I start opening them now so I can send Thank You notes right away or should I wait until the day after the wedding and we can do all of the thank you notes then? Perhaps we could open the boxes/gifts that are being delivered from friends/family who will not be attending. The gifts that come in from people who will be attending, we hold on to???

Hmmm...?????

I think you should wait to send thank you notes after the wedding. Then you can thank the person for the gift and coming to your special day! Even if some people aren't coming, you can even just do all the notes in one shot.

I got a thank you card once like a month before a friend's wedding, as she picked up the gift from the registry that I got. I just thought it was odd, getting the card before the wedding

Well I decided to go against the grain and I'm not having a wedding party. Besides my sister as MOH and Glen's brother as best man. I was going back and forth about it. I would have asked 4 people to be bridesmaids. One, my sister in law who is 19 and a spoiled brat who acts 12. My MIL actually asked me (more like pleaded) NOT to ask her daughter to be a bridesmaid, as she will "ruin my day" (her words). Then I had 3 friends to ask. One of them, was not really that supportive of my move here and ever since I moved, NEVER has once called me. I always make the effort, call/e-mail her, etc. I'm fed up of making the effort, why would I ask her to be a bridesmaid? She's not being a friend to me. The other 2 friends, last time I was in Canada were complaning about how much they hate being a bridesmaid as it cost too much $$, too much hassle, etc. One recently turned down the request of another friend to be a bridesmaid as she said she couldn't afford it. Well obviously I don't want to ask them now. It sucks because I did want to have a bridal party more for my husband. I think he's disappointed because he has some close friends he wanted to ask, but what can I do. I just hate DRAMA.

I think the smaller bridal party the better. I decided from the beginning only family in the wedding party. My fiance has two twin brothers so they are his best men, I have a brother and a sister so I have a maid and man of honor thats it. All my friends are going to be guests at the wedding, this way no drama :) I think you are doing the right thing, It's your special day, you don't want people being a part of your wedding that aren't being very supportive of your choices!

Wedding Party drama is among the worst! It ranks right up there with 12 & 13 year-old drama! HA!

Here's the thing... if you don't have a wedding party, then you don't run the risk of having people back out on you with a month left (AFTER you (the bride) bought the dress for your friend to help out as much as you could) and then your fiance tells you the SAME day that one of his friends won't be coming over b/c he has had over a year to get a passport to come to the US from Canada and now (with 32 days left) says he can't afford to get a passport.

*sigh* I hate drama too. Wedding drama is the worst. I'm frustrated that my friend from Idaho didn't start saving for her ticket last summer (when I asked her) and that Duncan's friend didn't plan ahead for a passport a year ago (when he was asked). When people have a year's notice, there is almost no excuse, if they said YES back then.

Here's the ironic part... neither person would have to worry about food (rehearsal dinner - paid for, breakfast - included in hotel room rate, dinner at wedding - paid for b/c it is the reception, day after breakfast - again included with hotel, day after lunch - provided b/c we're having a luncheon at the house so we can open gifts & hang out with family/friends & chat & share pics), the hotel is $105/night and the rooms would be shared so actually $53/night, and I bought her dress and Duncan was going to pay for his tux.

ARGH.

Exactly! There are so many things that could go wrong, so many reasons for drama. I am not into that at all, I don't want anyone's ####### to ruin anything. The only way to make sure that happens is to forgo the bridal party. I just know I'm gonna hear about how they can't afford it, etc. and I just don't want to deal. I understand that being a bridesmaid can get expensive, so I just won't ask. Now, watch them be offended because I didn't ask  You can't win, you know?

I'd bet a brand new shiny quarter on that one... but I don't want to lose the bet! :P

We went the family only route. We had our collective brothers, sister and my brother's two adorable girls. I really wanted to have my new step-siblings be a part of our ceremony. I was so excited that Dad's fiance and her kids were soon going to be part of my family.

I did pay for my niece's dresses. Raising two kids is really expensive in Bermuda and I didn't want to add to that.

Yeah, I have my sister, his sister and my BFF who is like a sister. On the other hand, Bill is having nothing but trouble with his groomsmen. So far 2 people have backed out after agreeing for stupid reasons... I'm at the point where I don't care. I have 3 bridesmaids and if we have 1 groomsman (my brother) then so be it! Jill, I think you are being very smart.
