My mom had her dress preserved. Although it is not my style, I think it is very cool that she kept it. I will probably keep mine and preserve it too... especially since it is so "different" from most traditional dresses. :)

ooo... forgot to mention, we're hoping to have our 'Canadian wedding ceremony' (lol.. we're calling it our Re-Wedding) on July 10, 2010. Hopefully the paperwork falls in line for that to happen... Also 'hoping' that the paperwork will be done in time for a January 10, 2010 civil ceremony in the US, with February 20, 2010 as a backup date. *crossing fingers*

I cried when I took a moment to see myself in my wedding dress.

My daughter and I cried and hugged when she put her dress on. Then we went for champagne, dinner, and wine at a little french bistro a couple of doors down from the dress shop. So I know what you were feeling, July. It was awesome. :luv:

I hope my daughter preserves her wedding dress. It is stunning. I kept mine. (My original one from the marriage to her father.) She said she would have worn it because she loves it but, alas, we are different heights and sizes. I kept my dresses from this marriage, also. Yes, I said dresses. I had purchased "the one" about a year before the wedding. Unfortunately, I gained some weight by the time I got here and we married so I had to buy a new one. Luckily, they're not real wedding gowns so I can wear them again to some other formal event. That's if I can ever fit into them.

Speaking of fathers..... since my daughter's father passed away when she was just little, she is having my father walk her down the aisle. (Hopefully, he is still with us, then, because he is getting on in age. :( ) Is anyone else having someone other than their father walk them down the aisle? I'm just wondering what to do about protocol and stuff. Do I need to make a speech, or say a few words, that the father would have made? Or do I leave all that up to my Dad? Does anyone know?

With my family drama (and it has gotten better and worse... LOL) that I've dealt with all of my life, I am actually having my mom walk me down the aisle. I have always wanted her to do it, because I didn't want my bio-dad and didn't want to put my step-dad (who is more of a father) on the non-traditional side. I don't like drama or confrontation. So, I've always wanted my mom. She's the one who has been there for me through thick and thin and everything in between.

So, she is walking me down the aisle, while my bio-dad and step-dad wait for us up front. Then, all three of them will "give me away".

As for toasts, I think if you would like to give a toast as the living biological parent, that would be super sweet. I'm sure both of my dad will give a toast. So, if her grandfather wants to toast as well (or opt not to toast) I think that would be appropriate as well.

In today's society, there is no more typical "norm". However, I believe that it would still be proper ettiquette to allow the best man to toast first, then you and grandpa, then the groom's parents, then anyone else. :)

Okay folks, we've gotta come up with a way to "label" the weddings, b/c I know people are gonna get confused. It would be nice to use the same terminologies for everyone, to keep it simple. :) Here is my thought...

~ We can always put "Legal" so people know that is the date for the marriage license.

~ We can put "Celebration" for the church (or place of worship) or ceremonial wedding that is/is not the legal marriage date.

~ We can put "Church" for the church (or place of worship) or "Ceremonial" for the wedding that is/is not legal, but the formal celebration.

What do you all think???

BTW, Chadlaure, Minnew, and Hapycloud... which wedding is this for you all?

PS

Way to steal my date, Kristin & TG!!! :P I had it first..... (KIDDING!!!!!) Wow, does that make me sound like my fourth graders, or WHAT?? Seriously, I am kidding. July 17th is a fabulous date! :)

You missed me! Though I know I blabbered on a bit in there so that's ok. We are NOT getting married in a church..

I'm confused on the difference between these two:

~ We can put "Celebration" for the church (or place of worship) or ceremonial wedding that is/is not the legal marriage date.

~ We can put "Church" for the church (or place of worship) or "Ceremonial" for the wedding that is/is not legal, but the formal celebration.

I guess for us:

January 10, 2010 OR February 20, 2010 - Civil/Legal wedding

July 10, 2010 - Ceremonial Celebration

of course the above dates depend on the speed (or lack) of processing :(

On the subject of there no longer being a "norm" for weddings today:

My mother's brother actually gave the first toast at Dad and my stepmom's reception. Uncle Lauchland spoke about how much the MacKenzie's loved my father and how good he was to Mom especially during her illness. He talked about Mom telling everyone during her last few months that we were to make sure Dad didn't end up alone. Most, importantly he told everyone that they were thrilled that Dad has found happiness again. So, it was very unusual but wonderful. Plus, my brother was the best man and he'd rather walk through fire than speak in front of a crowd.

... and yes my Uncle's name is Lauchland MacKenzie. Can you guess what province Mom was from? :jest:
