We also don't require it to get married, though the bank hummed and hawed at the idea of adding me without it (they'll do it, but want it for their records asap).

Also, though it may be based on oooooold news in the K1 forums from way back when, I seem to recall there being the occasional issue if a K1 tried to get their SSN after their name officially changed.

For the life of me, I can't remember why that'd be an issue... I blame too much coffee and far too little sleep at the moment. But I do remember reading something... heh. Won't kill us to wait the two weeks, either way, I guess.

I think I'm applying for it shortly after getting down there but if I dont have it for the civil I will be getting married without it. I don't really care if I have it or not before I get married.

Sam what you're thinking of is certain SSN offices telling people they are no longer eligible because their status changes once they get married. There is a link somewhere for the rule from the SSN office that says we can get it no problem, but they will probably issue it to you in your maiden name due to the fact you will probably not have any other things in your married name at that point.

Aaaah, yes, that was it. I couldn't remember.

Ben and I felt lucky to have learned that we actually knew an officiant... but I've been thinking about that a little lately.

I mean, if we want to make it as casual as simply signing the paper, snapping a few pictures and going on our way, fine... But do we? Do I? This is going to be our only wedding, I know it. We casually tossed around the idea of doing something bigger later, but I know that won't ever happen so I'm banking on the fact that it won't. So then, would it be the end of the world to pay someone a little bit to have them do it up right?

I don't need a big to-do... and I don't need to have twenty people there or anything like that. But it feels like it should still be made into a moment...

And considering that there are brides out there arguing with their hunny for that extra 5k to be spent... I feel silly talking about a couple hundred. And I don't know why.

SSN:

I am only in the US for 2 weeks before we get married, so I'm leery about applying for SSN right away. I'll look into it further though, or might pick your brain later Danu. lol ;)

Sam, as for the big 'to do' or not, Dan and I are having the same dilemma. It really doesn't take a lot to make the day a little extra special though. your idea of taking some photos in that garden area sounds lovely :)

What do you mean byt paying someone a little bit to have them do it up right? you mean like a wedding package or something?

There are so, so many officiants in the Orlando area, and in trying to find a nice place to take photos, I came across a lot of people/reviews who seem to love what they do and actually make something out of it... no matter how big or small. Sam it's your wedding. Do it how you want, and your officiant should be ok with that, unless, you know, it involves murdering someone :P

Like you said, it's your only wedding. Make it special!

QFT

I guess that's why I don't mind having the bigger wedding. This is the only one I'll ever have, the pastor who's been my pastor my whole life is officiating, and more or less everyone who's played a large role in both of our lives will be there. Fortunately, my parents are the traditional type and want to pay for everything, so we're just kinda enjoying the planning and getting ready :)

Oh, and I found my flower girl's dress online yesterday!!! I've had one heck of a time finding a 3T flower girl dress that doesn't have spaghetti straps and fits our style (and hers). I found this one secondhand, but it's a david's bridal dress (which is what mine and my bridesmaids have) and in the same color. She's gonna look so adorable :D

I agree! In the end, you and Ben are the only ones marrying, you are the two walking down the aisle, the two going through the journey of married life. You should celebrate your marriage the way you want to! And as long as you dont go into debt getting married or something, then why not do what you want?

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Sam, just a suggestion. Since you are moving to Orlando, you could do a beach wedding for as little as $175 and that includes the license fee.

Also, if you need wedding ceremonies, I have about 5 samples that the wedding coordinator sent me, although I wrote our ceremony myself and it is 5 pages long.

Woo hoo!

You guys are all right... I know. I'm feeling guilty feeling this way, though, and I don't know why.

And I don't want to gripe. I don't. But I've let go of so much that I've wanted when it came to a wedding for the sake of this process. I have always, always wanted to get married in a Church. However, Ben and I discussed it when we started talking about weddings, and due to our families and our own belief systems, we decided against it. And because of our reasons, I was totally fine with it. So then it came down to a small wedding, just close family... well, my family won't come. Half of his won't come. (All for various reasons.) So now it's a "screw it, let's do it our way and be done with it, move on." And that's fine.. but, though that's my attitude towards the whole process, I don't want it to be that towards the wedding itself.

But I'm just venting now, and I shouldn't be.

The beach wedding idea is nice... though Ben and I aren't really beachy people. I wanted to replicate that idea with the garden theme. I will probably take you up on those samples, though. My mom keeps telling me if I don't think our officiant will say something I like, that I could always write something and give it to him. But honestly, I wouldn't know where to start.

Part of the problem, I know, is that I have no idea whatsoever about our officiant. Our blessing in finding someone we knew is also our curse... because now I have to worry about offending someone the family knows, etc.

Ashen, I say you and I meet halfway between Cali and Florida, throw a double wedding and be done. Yes? :P Haha.

And Scooter, that dress is absolutely adorable.

Added our wedding date to the mix. The thought of having a legal ceremony in the U.S. then having the reception later(maybe back home in Canada) came up, but we eventually decided to do everything all in one day & get it done. It added more stress (& its not over yet) to plan an entire wedding from Canada with visits to Michigan, but I think we'll be happier we did the whole shabang one day.

Sam, try botanical gardens. When the hubby and I were in Montreal, we thought of going to their botanical garden and so I checked their website -- they will let people in to take wedding photos and maybe if its such a small party, to get married too. Also, I know this is silly but ever thought of going to Disney? At least for photos, they have beautiful gardens.

Finally married... and still married... ;)

I'm in contact with a few of the local gardens to see if they'll accommodate our small group of five or so without astronomical fees. A lot of them charge for permits and special occasions for what they consider to be wedding ceremonies.. but I'm hoping to pull at the heartstrings a bit with our very simplistic setup, haha.

If they don't allow for the "ceremony" and photos, we'll simply go for photos. Just so many gorgeous areas to pick from.

Disney is incredibly expensive for two, and very crowded on weekends to be able to take decent photos, unfortunately.

Edit: switched Arabella's/Peachey's dates in order.

Also, we need someone to agree on a March wedding and a July wedding. We're missing both. :P
