Honestly, I can't wrap my head around any of it, because we're going so simple. I mean, the idea of waking up and leaving - together - to wherever we're meeting our officiant, getting married and then coming home... it all seems so wrong somehow.

And yet, heh.

But I think, if you have the option of kicking his butt home for the night(s) before, that'd be a nice way of making it more official-like/celebratory for the two of you, away from all the rest. :)

I guess I could have Sean stay with his folks the night before our wedding. They will be in a hotel or condo down here for the ceremony.

I know it feels wrong . . . trust me I know (my dad's a minister). But he is going to be living with me for 2 1/2 months prior to the ceremony, so having him sleep elsewhere for one night is not going to make a difference lol.

lol

Well for us we've always stayed together when we've visited each other, but never lived together (though I've lived with previous boyfriends). We'll be there for 2 weeks before the wedding, but even that's not the same in my head. My dad was also a minister actually... haha Just briefly, but still, I grew up in that environment. I don't know if that's what makes me not want to do it, or if I just want to hold on to the idea of the first time we see each other that day is when we're all ready to go for the ceremony and stuff. Rather than waking up together and getting ready together (weird!?)... We have to walk down stairs to get to the beach, and I have this picture in my head of him waiting at the bottom and me walking down, and him seeing me for the first time that day and being like SHAZAM!! hahahaha

The hunny and I just got married last Wednesday!

It's hands down one of the best memories I will ever have in my life.

I picked my engagement ring -- actually found one I liked online, sent the link to my husband and he bought it. It is a 1/2 carat, three stone ring with tiny diamonds flanking the big stones. I chose a wedding band that matches the ring, so it has several small stones on half of the band. My rings were pretty expensive, but I really want a nice ring and am really happy with it.

My husband though just wanted a 20 dollar stainless steel ring :P *shrug* Its what he wants, he was super happy with it and he loves it. I kind of wanted him to buy a more expensive ring but he said he'd rather spend the money elsewhere, and I said, "whatever you want honey". And he is really happy with it.

Anyway, we just did a normal circuit court wedding but it was really beautiful. The judge was soooo nice, she let all 16 of my guests and photgrapher enter, even though fire regulations stipulated that we can only let 12 guests in. We were married under a nice, white arc with flowers on it. Both my husband and I teared up while exchanging our vows.

After the event, my mother-in-law threw us a beautiful appetizer/champagne toast. She and my father-in-law ordered us a very beautiful two-tiered cake and had h'ordereves. Shortly before dinner, we had our "toast" and everyone in the room (except the future WIL) said something super nice to us.

My mom then took us all to the restaurant where my husband and I had our first date for dinner. By that time, both he and I were ready to pass out because of exhaustion, but we had a wonderful time.

A few weeks before marrying (and interviewing!), we booked a room at Aloft for our wedding night. We paid about 80 dollars for the evening, which I think was pretty decent for the hotel -- the hotel was spectacular. It was soooo awesome. Anyway, Im glad we did that because that was the first time we really had "couple" time since the "wedding week".

And tomorrow, my mom and MIL are throwing us a reception. I believe over 60 of our family members are coming. Im really excited.

My husband and I are both very fortunate to have very supportive families. We couldn't have afforded to pay for any of the "mini celebrations" for this week. We had originally just planned to go to the court house and go to dinner. I'm really glad that our families stepped in, because I will always look back to this day/week and remember all the love and happiness that embraced us on the day we got married. To this day, the fact that Ive been married hasnt sunk in yet (I HAVE only been married for 2 days hahahaha), but I wont forget the things that happened to commemorate this event.

Anyway Ive only had time to skim through the past threads, so I dont really know what the current "topic" is. But if you and your fiance have the opportunity to really celebrate this event, do so, even if its simple as going to dinner after or getting a hotel room for the night. I thought that we would save the celebration for 2011, when we'll have our ceremonial event then. But we wont be married in Aug of 2011 because we would have been married in 2009. And I am sooo happy we celebrated the day we made things official the way we did!!! :)

Oh, it feels weird saying "husband" when in the past few months, Ive been writing about him as the "fiance"...

Oh yeah, so if I sound a bit wonky, Ive been operating on 6 hours of sleep since Wed... :P

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Grats darkchilde that is so wonderful and thanks for sharing your wedding day with us!

Your post is very timely as we have been discussing with Ashenflowers whether or not she should do a few extras on her wedding day. I agree with you that this is a special day- even if it is a court room, beach, or otherwise small affair, and should be commemorated accordingly!

Yay for your new husband and I wish you both the very best!!!

Sounds wonderful Darkchilde, congrats!!

You only get married once... well maybe not everyone, but you will only marry the RIGHT person once, right? So I say its worth going out on a limb and making the day unique and special. It doesn't mean you need to spend a million dollars, but personal touches and things to make you happy are important. I think if Bill and I had our own place, staying in a hotel that night wouldn't have been a top priority (and if it wasn't free).

Funny that you say that...me and my husband said that we want to renew our vows every year at the same spot on the beach for our anniversairy. I know it seems much, but it was just us two, and the minister is only a couple hundred dollars...it allows us to be reminded of our vows and our love for one another. It's our most favourite spot in the world...being married on the beach was my lifelong dream. I really hope we can keep the tradition up...it would be an awesome way to celebrate our anniversary :)

We have a wedding next week. It's one of Damon's employees...also her brother is a good business contact of his...this family is the most prominent family in the entire State...they seriously own half of it! They are having it at the most lavished Hotel around....and her family is spending a fortune! The reason why I make issue of this (cause I am so not into materialistic stuff) is because he treats her like pooh and she is not even sure she wants to do this! Can you believe it!??? Why go through with it???? They are having 1000 guests and everyone but the Pope will be there...it's kinda sad actually...she is extremly nice and shy...I think that she thinks that this is as good as it gets...he has no money and has refused to pay for anything! It wouldn't be as bad, if he had no money, but at least tried to put in even $100!!!! I feel bad for the family spending all this money...her brother, was supposed to get married in April and it was called off a week before the wedding because she refused to sign the prenup....his fiance lived with him (in his parents muli million mansion)...well she must have thought she hit the jackpot or something...cause they started fighting over the prenup for months...to the point that she cut him off from sex...and would only talk to him when they met for dinner at a mutual restaurant to hash out details of the prenup...she wanted $60,000/month for life!!!! and wanted half of the mansion that his parents owned! Needless to say, she got nothing...lol...

I feel sorry for him and the sister...they are both very sweet and shy...but always find themselves it these types of relationships...It will be some wedding I tell you...

Anyways, didn't want to dampen this thread,...I thought it was kinda interesting to share...kinda makes me thankful that I married for love :)

Varba and I have picked out our wedding rings. His is twice as expensive as mine.

For our civil ceremony I'm wearing a traditional Chinese wedding dress (my friend that lives in China shipped it this week, it was her shower gift to me).

I told Varba to ask his mom for pizza and ice cream cake after the ceremony. He also rented us a suite on that night :) Mainly because my mom will be staying with us at his townhouse, and I think he wants to consummate a few times.

I had a dream about my wedding last night. Apparently we all forgot about it, and the rehearsal and it was a big mess LOL

aw... thanks for sharing your day with us! what an awesome feeling, eh? I totally agree with you on the " ...one of the best memories I will every have in my life." Statement. It's pretty magical, eh?

We got married at the courthouse too and the feeling of everything happening all at once was kind of like a dream.

it's lovely that you have a good supportive family and such and it sounds like you guys had a blast.

Congratulations and here's to a lifetime of remembering that gorgeous feeling the day you married your person.

all the best to you guys,

LGG

PS. In terms of the ring talk, I didn't want an engagement ring and we got matching white gold bands. i love my wedding ring. I wanted something simple and easy to wear and it's a simple piece of jewellery that i'll have to problem wearing every day. I don't normally wear jewellery so...

Thank you everyone! When I have time, Ill put some pics up to share.

I completely agree about making the day memorable. We dont want to spend a fortune even for the 2011 ceremony, but we wanted to make sure we had a great time at our wedding (last Wed) and will have a great time for the next one. And most importantly, try to make it "your own", cause it is YOUR day. I wore a blue dress to the event because I thought I looked nicer in it :P And the dress I wore was made of traditional Filipino materials and was on sale for 30 bucks hehehe. We went to the local grill in spite of my husband's mom's objections -- she wanted to go to a more upscale restaurant, but my husband and I have very fond memories of the grill/bar so we had our "wedding dinner" there.

Im really sorry to hear that poprocks :( Im glad that the guy realized what a mistake it was to marry her!

Anyhow, to those who are having their weddings in the next few days/months/years to come, congratulations! I hope that your day is magical and memorable!!!

Wow, quite a story Poprocks! Let us know how the wedding goes (if it goes...) It will be interesting to hear what kind of wedding all the money in the world can get ya. Although I'm pretty sure that if I was a millionaire I still wouldn't have put on a show like that.

My fiance and I wandered around Michaels craft store after we donated some stuff and I found nice place cards and thank you cards for the wedding.

I also got small pink paper flowers to add a little colour to the thank you cards and the place cards.

The thank you cards are brown and ivory and the place cards are pink and white. I wanted the brown ones, but they dont have them anymore since they're downsizing their wedding section.

I found the matching invites for the thank you cards, but I couldnt get a hold of my mom to see if she started the other invites yet. I kinda hope she hasnt, because I really like these ones and we even have a 40% off coupon if we want to get them, which would be great, cause they'd go down to about 25 dollars for the 40 invites.

The thing is, I looked on the designer's website and the site they're from and I can't find them anymore, so I'd be worried that the printing template isnt there anymore. I really do want them, they're really pretty.

My parents are trying to find a show that we can go to after the wedding.

I was looking and I only really see 3 that interest me but probably wont interest my parents.

I want to see Ka by Cirque du Soleil so SO bad, but they're like 115 a ticket.

So expensive.

I have seen two Cirque shows. I would pay $120 all over again to see O. They were both WOW - FANTASTIC. You should look around online, there are sometimes deals for 50% off (or buy one get one free or buy one get one 50% off or something).

But even at full price - totally worth it.

Nik and I made our wedding rings with our own hands - there's a workshop in New York and San Francisco where you can do this. We made simply shaped bands but out of mokume gane - white gold and silver. They were super expensive, but as was mentioned earlier, since they are the most lasting and you look at them every day, we were really happy in the end.

Wow, that's different.

I've never heard of being able to make your own wedding rings.

That's a really cool experience.

I called my parents and they actually got invites today. They got them at Michaels too and got 50% off instead of 40%. They were much nicer sounding than the ones we were going to get anyway. Still going to use the thank you cards we got and place cards since it didn't come in the kit.

And I was really surprised to hear that the Stratosphere hotel is going for 25 dollars a room right now for the end of January! Great deals, seriously.
