to be honest I don't even wear my wedding ring because it never really fit right.. we got it re-sized but now it is too small.. i wear it sometimes but on the pinky of my right hand ..lol I never have been much of a ring person anyways

my hubby doesn't wear his very much either.. would be too dangerous for him to wear it at work...

Ben can't wear his to work either... which makes me a little sad, but understandable.

So just to divert the attention away from rings a bit.... I've been wondering if I want to have a cake and what not. Our wedding is just us and our parents on the beach. My fiance's bosses friend is probably going to be our officiant, and the (amateur but good) photographer is an online friend of mine that we're flying in. I kinda feel like this is a casual small wedding, yet feel like we should have some elements of a bigger wedding.... especially since my parents are flying 2500 miles to be there, and his parents are really excited, and we might honestly not end up having that 2nd Canadian renewal of vows (I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen).

So, that said... what would you guys do in this situation? Not what's your situation, but what would you do in THIS situation. Would you have flowers, and a bit of decor, and a cake, and a topper? Would you forget all that and just do the thing on the beach and go for dinner and leave the rest of it out? Would you stay in a fancy-ish hotel that night or just go home to your apartment together?

I'm having a hard time deciding. heh

Well, it's hard to say what's going to happen down the line. Maybe you will have your second wedding down the line... but even if you do, would you regret having a few extras at your first, official ceremony? Unless you're spending thousands, I doubt it.

And I can understand how you're feeling - if your parents/anyone else might be travelling that far, you want it to be a bit of a to-do, even if that bit is only a teensy bit. But make sure that anything you add is still for you, regardless of who may be there or what may be expected. If YOU want the topper, go for it (course, it's not edible, so...). If you want some pretty flowers to sit in photos you'll likely have on your mantle for years to come, regardless of how little or much big of a deal you make the day, then you should.

I see nothing wrong with it. And if you do see this as likely being your one shot, personally, I'd say go for what will make your intimate day special to you.

Of course, I'm always in favour of cake.

Edit: Oh goodness, I LOVE key lime pie! Ack, I'm in a maaaajor food-binge mood. How dangerous...

Didn't read the last part about hotel versus heading home... Honestly, unless you've got the money to go the whole ten yards with a fancy room, personally, I'd just head home for the night.

I'm a bit torn on that issue myself, as we'll be living with my in-laws... But if you've got the place to yourselves anyhow, no reason you can't fancy up the place a bit and enjoy it regardless. :)

That's how I feel. Dan wants to get a hotel, but it seems like a waste of money to me. His parents offered to pay for it, but still, I just don't see the point. I'd rather put whatever money they 'would' have spent on that towards something else, but that's not how it works unfortunately. We will have our own place, so I just want to spend our 'wedding night' there! Especially since, unbeknownst to him I'm kicking him out for a couple days leading up to the wedding.. hahaha

It's worth it!

I think it's worth it to. I don't want to spend a lot, just a little something to get those little details that make it memorable and fun! the more I look at it, and the other things we want to deal with in the next couple years, the Canadian thing looks less and less likely. I'd honestly rather take a trip to see my brother, sister in law and niece and nephew, than spend money on a renewal of vows! I'd rather go back to school too! It's just low on my priority list I guess.

Haha, be sure to share the details of that convo!

 It's even funnier since you guys are the ones that met us both in Montreal... LOL

Yes, that's where he lives now (he's getting an apt next month, just in time for me. lol). So it's no big deal. I just don't really want to spend the night before our wedding together. It just seems... wrong. lol

Honestly, I can't wrap my head around any of it, because we're going so simple. I mean, the idea of waking up and leaving - together - to wherever we're meeting our officiant, getting married and then coming home... it all seems so wrong somehow.

And yet, heh.

But I think, if you have the option of kicking his butt home for the night(s) before, that'd be a nice way of making it more official-like/celebratory for the two of you, away from all the rest. :)

I guess I could have Sean stay with his folks the night before our wedding. They will be in a hotel or condo down here for the ceremony.

I know it feels wrong . . . trust me I know (my dad's a minister). But he is going to be living with me for 2 1/2 months prior to the ceremony, so having him sleep elsewhere for one night is not going to make a difference lol.

Well, i'm thinking I want to plan it as if the renewal of vows/whateverit'llbe thing is not happening, because it probably won't. So I don't want to look back on this and regret not doing the little extras to make it 'special' or whatever, cause it really might be the only chance we have. And yeah, the idea of not staying in the same place together for a couple days just seems to make it more special when we can after we're married. I dunno. I'm weird. I like sentimental things and treats, and little details.

I think I've decided to get a cake. Of some sort anyways. I don't even know why. lol but i'm excited!
