So, while I was in Phoenix this past week, we (my mom, my MoH, and I) decided on the wedding invitations!!! I had shown my fiance what I wanted to do that was different from the original plan, and we were able to figure out a way to make it all work! Yea!!! Now, for the details of the invitations.

Is it better for me to...

1- use US stamps to get the invites to Canadian guests with CDN stamps for returning the response envelopes

2- use US stamps to get the invites to Canadian guests with US stamps for returning the response envelopes

3- use CDN stamps to get the invites to Canadian guests with CDN stamps for returning the response envelopes

If I remember right, choice #1 is the "legal" way, but I can't remember for sure. Is anyone familiar with the US/CDN mailing or postage rules?

Event Date

#1 July! If you're mailing the invites from the US you need US stamps to get to Canada! Have your fiancee get the Canadian stamps to put on the RSVP envelopes!

I choose #1!! :)

You need to use the postage in the country from which it's being sent from.. so an invitation sent from the US needs US postage, a response card sent from Canada needs to be mailed using CDN stamps.

Thanks! That's what I thought... but was questioning myself for some reason. Our response card is a type of postcard. Here in the US we have postcard stamps... are there postcard stamps in Canada? The postcard card stamp is 27cents compared to the 42cent first-class (regular) stamps.

When I asked my fiance, he said a stamp is a stamp... what are you talking about?? Hmmm... guessing perhaps no postcard stamps???

For the invitiations that you are sending FROM the US TO Canada, you *have* to use USPS stamps.

For the returns that will be coming FROM Canada TO the US, you *have* to use Canadian stamps.

The stamp that will be used will depend on the origins of where it will be mailed from. You cannot use a Canada Post stamp if the origin is the US.

You can purchase Canada Post stamps on-line from their website, but I'm not sure if they'll send them to you in the US. http://www.canadapost.ca/Personal/Shop/ If not, you can have your Canadian family purchase them for you, and then mail them to you in the US.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Yes, in Canada a stamp is a stamp! We don't have postcard stamps. A stamp for a letter is the same amount as a postcard.

Oh and here's another piece of stamp trivia: In Canada, we have stamps with a "P" on them. Not an amount, like here the stamp says 42. What the "P" means is that even when the price of a stamp goes up, you can still use the "P" meaning it's been paid and you don't need to add on a 1 cent stamp to it. Of course, when you buy a new pack of stamps you pay the new amount but you can always use the "P" ones even when the prices goes up!

Oh Jeez that's something I need to think about too, my fiance was thinking have all the US invites just sent to him and he will buy the US postage stamps for those...Unless I get him to send me a roll of US stamps that are meant to go to Canada..I think those are around 60-80 cents each instead of the regular 42 cents or whatever its at now?

Check with USPS on the postage you need. I had square invitations so they charged 62 cents. Apparently, the machines they use to process the mail can only be used on rectangular enveloped where the address is written parallel to the longer sides.

People here are so smart and let me know that Canada has "permanent" postage just like the "forever" stamps here in the US!! I wanted to share what I found in my postage research!

Here, you can find "Celebration" stamps that are permanent (P rate) of $.54 each. They're really cute! ;) But, those will only work within Canada. :(

But, for postage from Canada to the US it is $.98 each. So, for our return postcards, it is almost a dollar. Wow... how about email or the phone??? (KIDDING... my mother would shoot me over that one! She's already having a hard enough time with me wanting to be more modern, than traditional!) Not sure what the weight/size limit is on that.

Postage from the US to Canada, that's a whole other ball of wax. Postage is going up as of May 11. And, every May will be when they make their rate adjustments. USPS Site :bonk:

Now, for mail to go to Canada prior to May 11, the rate is $.72. That is based on a "regular" letter size & weight. Regular refers to the average piece of paper and assumes there is no more than 7 sheets of paper inside the envelope. After May 11, the rate will go to $.75 for a "regular" envelope. Stamps.com Info

Hope this info can help someone out there! :)
