Now that my wife got her 10-year green card we are planning a trip back to China. We have a couple of questions though.

1) Her green card has her married name but her passport has her maiden name.

Will this cause any problem?

2) She asked about changing her name when she renewed her passport at the Chinese consulate, but they said she can't change her name on her passport. They did say she could add her married name to the passport as an addition. I've never heard of that. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

Have no experience but I'll try my best. (That's also why I didn't change my last name, way too much hassle. )

1) I believe as long as you guys bring your marraige license with you, then shouldn't be any problem. Plus you will be traveling with her, that's an extra fail safe.

2) I have no idea. Go with whatever the official answer is. If they let her add the married name as an addition, then why not do it? At least it's something. As far as I know Chinese usually don't have middle name, now she can use her maiden name as middle name and married name as last name, that's if she doesn't mind.

I'm kind of waiting for the day that my 10 yr GC arrives, then perhaps I'll plan a trip back to HK as well. It's almost been 3 years. :crying:

I agree with jasmine just carry your marriage certificate/license with you when you travel and as for passport, I believe she can apply for amendment of passport so she can use her married name and by doing this, her maiden surname will become her middle name.Good luck.
