Original Documents are not passed on to NVC

Assuming that USCIS and NVC are the same office but different departments, I attached the original Marriage certificate to the I-130 application.

I called NVC today and asked them if they received the documents and hence the original certificate. "We dont get the documents from USCIS pertaining to your application."

They told me to contact USCIS directly and request for the original. I dont know if there is a way for them to forward the originals to NVC. I am being told that I have to fill out form G-884 and mail in the application requesting the originals back. Wondering how long this process going to take.

Anyone who has experience ? Should I fill out G-884, or is there a way to have USCIS forward the originals over to NVC?

It will save me great time, if there is another way.

* USCIS and NVC are simply a joke :ranting:

they are NOT the same office... they are NOT even the same department

USCIS = Department of Homeland Security

NVC = Department of State

If you read carefully the instructions to the petition it says that the USCIS does NOT routinely require originals. If any originals are submitted they will become a part of the file and are NOT returned.

YMMV

That's correct. Original documents should never be sent to anyone unless they request them, the USCIS only requests copies and are not responsible for any original documents or evidence that they receive.

we did the same mistake, we thought that USCIS will send originals to NVC or to Local US embassy (we didn't know much in the beginning). Now they have two of our marriage certificates including the one we sent them with RFE.

But thank God we have 3 copies from the church so we were able to send it to NVC.

we have already requested USCIS to send our originals back but they haven't reply yet.

Thank you for your comments. I was looking towards some help in terms of someone having gone through some of the similar experience. Can you please tell me if you filed G-884 and when did you submit this. I am wondering how long it will take USCIS to send me back the documents. I am going to call them again tomorrow and persuade them to simply forward on the originals to NVC.

My wife has another original and she will be sending me that asap. This will help keep the NVC ball rolling.

But Arun, please let me know when you made the request with G-884 and how long has it been?

Thanks,

Sorry you feel that USCIS and NVC are a joke, maybe next time you should read the application form more closely as they clearly state DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS unless requested.

Guess you need to get another original certificate while you wait the 6 - 9 months it is going to take for the G-884 to be processed and the original returned to you.

OR

You forget about the original you send in error and just get a new original and a few extras as you need them and then you can move on from this error.

Hey Great to hear from you again. Actually thanks on the info for Certified copied. I will ask my wife (beneficiary) to do that and send it to me.

I am the petitioner and I dont know how she can act as an agent. She being in Egypt will have to mail in the documents from there to NVC here. You see, may be there was a confusion but your suggestion will not help.

I will call her today and tell her to simply get certified copies of everything and send it to me. I think this will suffice.

Thank u everyone and agree with TayRivers that I have to just move on from this grave error. 9 months wait. Once again proves my theory that both USCIS and NVC are a Joke.

Just a note - they do not want certified photo copies - that will not do.

You need to get certified copies from the 'issuing entity' ie: whichever government office issues them in the country of origin.
