Our place in the Universe IS very small. That's the point. There isn't a god who picks humans - out of all of the probable life forms in the universe - to "live forever" with him in his heavenly home. Humans need to accept the fact that we ARE nothing, and nothing we do matters - cosmically speaking. People don't want to believe that their lives are finite and their achievements trite; but they are. Once this is accepted...then, one can truly live.

Platypus is a marsupial mammal. Marsupials split from the placentals in the fossil record in the Cretaceous. That makes the divergence of platypus from ** sapiens roughly 65 million years ago.

Which means what? Only that those who choose to believe in a universal timeline that begins ~6000 years ago have a certain amount of 'splaining to do.

LOL! I'm not implying anything. You pointed your friend to the history books, and the evidence you would have pointed her to would have to be the Council of Nicea, which is where the verses of "clarification" were added to the Bible on the trinity, right? This is what you were talking about, so I can't be implying anything :) It's your own evidence. You may remember it as Constantine, but the techincal decisions were made at Nicea. I was saying that there is evidence for it that is not present in those verses, and the verses are the main basis for denial of its possibility for those who want to come up with a unitarian belief (which was always fringe, ie gnosticism) rather than a trinitarian. So, by saying that someone just won't see the obvious history and fall back on a unitarian belief is to basically show that there is a misunderstanding or lack of knowledge about the actual back-up for a trinitarian doctrine.

Now, the confusion should actually be occuring as far as what is a trinitarian doctrine. There are several versions of trinitarian doctrine, and it goes from a triune G-d to a basic cover for polytheism depending on who you ask about it. Most Christians have worked hard to divorce the OT from their belief system in order to create a totally permissive state of being, so you'll also get differing versions as to who is G-d. So, if I answer, it's going to be admittedly from my POV, which is inclusive of both. I can't really in good concience give a long lecture about all the POVs, since that would take up eternity and stuff. I will list some of the verses (although not all) as a sampling...
