Hi,

My new wife and I are just going through paper work - reams and reams of the senseless rubbish (WE HATE THE USCIS!) - and have a quick question...

Does anyone know if it is possible to visit a USCIS office, say Chicago, and apply for the Adjustment of Status in person thus ensuring everything is in order and getting the AOS that day?

If not, why not?

Do others despise the beuraucratic process and the USCIS with a vehement passion too?

Will

Will,

Not possible.

Because the USCIS has a huge volume of work to process, not just your adjustment application. Allowing people walk unscheduled into a District or Sub office, submit an I-485, and walk out with LPR status is never going to happen. The background checks that are not handled by the USCIS, and the biometrics required for some of those checks, which are performed at ASCs not DOs and SOs, are two obvious reasons why.

Hi!!! If I were you, I would file it ASAP. Because now it takes only three months for the whole process. Try to have perfect applications, try not to miss anything and they will not let you wait so long. I understand about preparing a lot of papers but it's just the last preparation. Good Luck.
