K1 because we needed the time for him to finish grad school. And we weren't yet married and saw no reason to get married and be separated.

Haven’t filed yet, but will be going the CR1 route. I really want to get married in SOs country, on a specific date. But I especially want his family to be able to attend the ceremony. My family, on the other hand, travels frequently and are already making plans to be there. Also decided on CR1 over K3 so that he can work as soon as he arrives and since the two processes are moving along at pretty much the same timeline it seems a better choice for us. However if things start to slow down during the CR1 process, my understanding is that we could always go ahead and file the I-129 to complete the K3 and see if that gets him here any quicker.

IR-1 because we are both living outside the US and had no choice but DCF.

We thought of my husband going back to the US first and petition for IR-1 or K-3,

but figured the DCF IR-1 route is better for money wise.

We went the K1 route because although we met while I was living in Brazil, we also had a long distance relationship and I didn't want to begin our marriage apart. Having a boyfriend in another country was hard, I couldn't imagine a husband.

yeah it kind of sucks living your first year as husband and wife apart from each other... I got the visa about 3 weeks after our 1st anniversary...

CR-1, because it made the most sense for us. It makes more sense financially since it's less expensive and will allow me to work right away. Working right away (or almost right away) is a big thing for me, because neither of us have a whole lot of money lying around. Also, I didn't want to go the K-1 route, because I was very uncomfortable with the idea of not being able to leave the country for a few months. I don't intend to leave the country for a few months, but if there was an emergency back home, I wouldn't want to deal with the extra stress of trying to expedite AP or whatever. I'd just want to get on a plane and get back to my family.

So yeah, we decided that the CR-1 was the way to go. We got married in February, and we were prepared for a long wait. We figured that we were looking at anywhere between 10-18 months. Now amazingly, we're already almost finished at NVC 2 1/2 months later. We've been incredibly lucky so far.

K-1 (as I believed--and which turned out to be reality--that it would be faster) after (my) naturalisation; would have used entirely different (not involving one partner being USC--ergo not in VJ scope) method if such had been feasible (without lots of pitfalls or delays) prior.

K-1 visa for us! I was going to school in the U.S on an F-1 visa, we had been dating for around 3 years when we moved in together for 1 year. I moved back to Canada at the expiry of my OPT because we were not quite ready to get married and file AOS. We thought about getting married then filing K-3 or CR-1, but the separation while being married is what we did not want, separated while dating/engaged we were okay with. So by the time I POE with my K-1 it will have been almost a year and a half of separation between me moving back to Canada.
