Hi! :) My finance a long time ago spent 2 years in another country. She often travelled back to her native country during this time. At this time she was over 16. She definitely will obtain a police report from her native country, but we're wondering, does she really need a police report from the other country? There is no "proof" that she ever lived there (no documentation), and to get this police report is actually quite difficult.

Is it required? Or if it's completely unknown that she "lived" there, is the point moot?

You need to check this site to see if the country she traveled to at the time issues police certificates to foreigners. If they do, she needs to get one.

My question really is this:

Would they even know that she spent serveral months in another country? It's not written anywhere. Getting this report would be extremely difficult.

We have been advised by the Kiev consulate that if the person was not living outside the country for more than one consecutive year, and maintained a Ukraine address as "official" during this period, a police report is NOT required. We have a similar situation with our son who attends college in Moscow 10 months of the year, has a Ukraine address as his "official" residence (at least until this summer). We inquired as he will soon have a K-2 (to follow) interview and needed to know if we needed a police certificate from Russia. He is over age 16. This information should not be assumed to be correct for any other consulate.
