Its reasonable to connect the stories because it raises an interesting question about some people's motivations. Specifically whether their stance on this issue is motivated by genuine ideology, or the sort of blind partisanship we're all too familiar with.

I'm generally against the government having these broad sweeping powers to intercept and monitor communications under the umbrella of "national security". But lets not forget that there were practical justifications of the Patriot Act and the warrantless wiretapping that Bush brought in, just as there in this other story about the Obama administration being able to "shut off" the internet.

For me its not about whether I trust Obama more than Bush, its about whether the government (in general) should be entrusted with these powers.

Thomas Edison is probably having the last laugh now, but was laughed out when he proposed building a power station on every city block, that would be impossible to sabotage. Also wasn't so wet either about using DC as practically all of our appliances today go through the step of converting AC to DC first. Edison was just 130 years ahead of his time.

In the early stages of automation development using computer control, manual override was a must have, software nuts have taken over since then. Recall the greatest invention after the automatic camera, was the automatic camera with manual override.

A lot of our current vulnerabilities is of our own making, mainly because we have idiots in charge that can only think about making a cent for the stockholders with no regards for the consequences.

I am also guilty of bashing, but basically the idiots that have created these problems.

Edison advocated the local generation of DC. He never anticipated long distance transmission lines. He understood the differential in loss of power that occurs in long transmission lines (DC greater than AC), but thought of it as a non-issue. He also understood that the applied energy to create potential in DC is greater than in AC, but didn't consider the economy of generation to be of great importance.

Isn't that crazy though? There's 6 hours to gp and in that time jack gets infected with a prion disease (which are incurable and not something that can be transmitted through the air, gets cured, recovers and still manages to kill the bad guys.

This should be the last season imo. 24 got ott a few seasons ago, this is the worst by far.

Can you imagine what the climate would be in this country if it were really like it is portrayed in the show?

It is OTT but fun to watch. TBH this is the first year I really paid much attention to 24. I have to admitt the first 4 EP's this year had me hanging but it is time to resolve this particular story line and move on. After the hostage situation in the WH the bio-threat was reaching.
