Friends then Lovers???

Here's the deal. Just want to clear my mind with an answer to this questions. Help me out folks!

So my fiancee and I were friends growing up. We lost contact with each when I came to the USA about 10yrs ago. So after 10yrs we got re-united and about a month and half or so later we got engaged.

so when she goes for her interview and the consular ask her "how did you meet your fiance" or a similar question.

If she gives an answer similar to what I just described above, ( friends then lovers after 10yrs separation) will this cause a problem such as, maybe, NOT DATING LONG ENOUGH BEFORE GETTING ENGAGED???

Will the consular think we rushed to get engaged or any similar thoughts like that???

it's just a question that's been running through my mind. Getting an answer to this will free up space for something else.

Thanks much folks.

I think it's a bonus that you guys knew eachother growing up. I wouldnt think anything negative about it if I was the CO, I would actually think it was sweet.

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

No problems, they do not care how long you dated before you got engaged. I say this with the caveat that there may be an oddball consulate out there that does, but read the consulate reviews for your consulate. It is also best policy never to lie to anyone in this process. You have nothing to hide.

My wife and I met each other when I was her First year high school teacher back in the philippines - that was 1993-94. Then the following year her family migrated here in Florida. Thirteen years until Jan 2007, she found my email address from my alma mater. We started our communication until she found out I was not married yet and the rest is a history... April 2007, she went home and we met again since 1994. We talk about her plan of bringing me here, so it happened, she came back here in June 2, 2007 and started our paperworks ........

....all the consulate officer did was to hear our love story, how we met etc..etc...etc....he didn't even care to ask for my financial support coz I brought a ton of evidence and that I was really truthful and honest about my feelings and intentions...that's it!!!

It would be just as valid to say that the "oddball" consulates are the ones that DON'T care or DON'T ask. Furthermore, due to changes in personnel that always occur over time, "easy" consulates may not remain that way.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The OP is asking about questions at the interview, not on the I-129F. As such, the CO may ask anything they wish, for any reason. The only acceptable answer is the truth. You can't change what the truth is but you can describe it in the most positive light possible. It this situation, I'd focus on "how" the couple managed to reunite even more than the "when". There may be a suspicion the relationship is arranged solely to derive an immigration benefit, so focus on the aspects of the truth that paint a picture of a bona fide relationship.

It wasn't my intent to suggest only the oddball consulate would "ask", it is the oddball consulate that would have a problem with it.

I agree with you that an applicant and their fiance needs to be fully prepared and if the USC can possibly attend the interview, I highly recommend it. You had some great difficulty with the particular consulate you had to go through. I read about it in the thread you ssuggested in another post. I admire your ability to do so. Congratulations. The good news is, for now anyway, that situation exists only in a small handful of consulates. I do not know about Ghana and hence my caveat and suggestion in other posts to this OP that he read up on his consulate and people's experience with it.

Well, my fiancee's best friend is also friends with my uncle. so this friend of my uncle gave my fiancee's number to my uncle who then gave it to me. so I made the call after 10yrs and we got to where we are now.

Will this be a problem at the interview??

I don't know. You still don't mention why this happened. If instigated by the uncle's friend, why? If requested by you, entirely different story. Is a light coming on yet?

Looks like you need more light yourself so here try this switch. I had requested the number from my uncle before but he didn't have. I had forgotten about it till he came to me one day and said he's got. This is how he got. During a conversation with his friend, he just mentioned it that I have been asking about her ( my fiancee). Luckily, my uncle's friend had her number so she gave it to my uncle, who gave it to me.

Sometimes friends ask other friends about other friends. Is the light on yet ?

Yes, you've finally given enough information to see that you instigated the meeting based on your own interest in the woman instead of your uncle's friend suggesting you marry her so she could get a green card. Your first answer could be taken either way and from that part of the world, given that answer, the interview is likely to have taken an unpleasant turn. I expect if you'll tell the story of how you were looking for her, and how things evolved from there, you'll be fine.
