I was interviewed in Garden City on Jun 12. Since we were sitting waiting for like over 2 hours, I saw quite a few couples going in and coming out. My impression was that 80% of the couples went in came out happy. 10% I can't tell; the other 10% visually disappointed.

As for the interview, I guess my case is a bit different so I don't know if it will help you. I met my USC wife outside of US while we were both working overseas. We got married in May 2000 outside of US. I was transferred by my firm to NY head office in July 2004 on L-1 visa. I didn't submit the applications until Dec 2005; 5 years after our marriage and 1.5 years after we were in U.S. The timeline itself already proof that our marriage is genuine so during the interview the officer didn't question about our marriage and didn't even ask to look at any of our photos or any joint account statements.

He did ask us why we wait for 1.5 year after I was transferred before applying and I told him that we haven't make up our mind whether we want to be in the States or Canada (my home country).

The officer did however look very closely to the affidivat of support. My wife is a stay home mom and I'm the one who works. There are two problems here.... first of all, I'm the immigrant myself so I'm kind of sponsoring myself in terms of income. Secondly, I only have 2004 and 2005 income tax return. The officer did question that. Luckily he is a reasonable guy. He look at the employment letter and see that I've been working for the same firm for the past 10 years (although in like 4 differnt countries) and he look at my bank statement and pay slip and decide that's good enough. Frankly he can play by the rule and reject the application if he like even though my income is like ten times more than the poverty line and the fact that we just purchased our own home a couple of months ago.

I don't have much advice to you as of what to bring to proof your marriage since he didn't ask for any. But make sure if you have any doubt about the income stuff, be prepared and get a co-sponsor.

Good luck with your interview. I'm sure if your marriage is based on love, you will be fine. I believe that these guys are trained to tell the difference.

Good luck with your interview!
