hmmmm 2 weeks I think for me..

I was worrying the entire 2 weeks that the house would burn down and my passport with it :)

haha.. My cat knocked a glass of water on mine while I was out of town for work.. Only kinda messed up the inside cover..

I had planned on moving in about 6 weeks, but I only made it 3 weeks..

AOS Timeline

07/03/2008 - Received Welcome Letter and Green Card in Mail.

Did I mention the cost of travelling to VAC and AOS? plus 3 months without a job!

What is VAC?

Can't you ask for a work authorization at POE?

VAC is Vancouver Consulate

Most POE's do not give the work authorization stamp with a K-1 visa anymore, although JFK might still, not sure. Even though K-1 is technically work authorized, most employers won't hire you without an EAD and SS number to work. If you apply for an EAD as soon as you enter the country before submitting AOS it costs you money and is a waste, because by the time you receive your EAD your K-1 visa has hit its 90 day expiration. If you apply for EAD, as well as advance parole with AOS its included in the $1010 fee.

BTW, that's why we went the K1 route... only to find out NOW that what USED to be the rules are the rules no more. UGH! But, what IF someone will hire you without the EAD... Hmmm... s'pose that's not legal.

Event Date

I am officially moving in 3 weeks. I am K3 though and live in Vancouver, so I can go back and forth, activate my visa and still work the remaining 2 weeks @ my work. and able to apply for EAD. You have so many options. You should research it and asks others with the same type of visa what they have done.

I got my visa on Thursday and I moved on Saturday! I was definitely ready to be outta there! I came home from my interview and I cleaned up my apartment and got rid of the rest of the stuff that needed to go and packed my two suitcases and my dog and flew out on a jet plane! :)

that is basically what I did.. except I had been living at home for the a few months before my interview and had gotten rid of most of my stuff already..

my parents had a small going away party for me on Friday and I was on the plane early Saturday morning
