How long after interview do you wait to move to US?

Is it right away after the approval or it takes time? if so, how long? thanks

The K-1 visa's give you a six month timeline to move to the US. You don't indicate on your profile what visa you're petitioning for. I checked your timeline, and it says CR-1? Do you know that after entering the US you can go back and forth without applying for AOS? If your timeline is filled out correctly of course. Please fill in your profile please.

once you get the visa in your passport you can move anytime you want to, up to 6 months after you get the visa, like Carla said...

I moved about 3 days after I got the visa...

I moved 5 weeks after getting my visa. I needed to give notice at work, train my replacement, finish tying up my Canadian affairs, and give notice on my apartment. It went quickly.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'm waiting 2.5 months to move. I gave my work a long notice so we could plan a good transition and wanted to plan my move with the weather so I could be off for the summer. The wait is kind of annoying, but it's going by fast and already feel like I'm not going to be able to tie up all my loose ends and see everyone I want to see before I leave!

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

I never thought about that! Having the summer off is definitely a plus I didn't consider

I'm going to be waiting 6 weeks from the day I have the interview... Assuming I'm approved on that day (don't want to count my chickens before they hatch!) But if you're asking how long it takes to have the visa in your hand after you're approved at the interview some people have received it in a couple days, and others didn't get it for 2 weeks. So it really depends on how fast things are moving at the consulate and with Canada Post!

I moved 9 days after I got my Visa :)

It was in April so I still had the summer off. but just a little tip here for you gals that haven't gone through this yet...

The adjustment for me was a little harder because my husband's family is out of state, and because he stayed home for his kids in the past few years he doesn't really have any good friends around, so there wasn't any people for me to hang out with around him other than him. So when he was at work, for the 5 months it took me to get my EAD I was kinda depressed everyday and stressed with all the immigratin process, and once I got the EAD I was stressed about finding a job which took me 4 months.

I can say that before I moved I thought I would enjoy this cool vacation....but to be honest I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would have.

So just don't get your hopes too high about it being "100% pure fun and stress free" :innocent:

Otherwise it's still nicer outside in the summer...

The plan for me is to have my interview in late May or early June and not do POE until late September. This will give myself and my fiance enough time to finish preparations for our wedding in October and send out invitations of course. It will be a pretty small wedding (80 tops) and most everyone that is coming already knows the tentative date. (Thank goodness for rescheduable venues) The more in depth we get with the planning the more and more a civil wedding looks like a better idea, which was our idea from the beginning * sigh* families!! Did I mention the cost of travelling to VAC and AOS? plus 3 months without a job!

I haven't even started yet, but our plan is that my fiance comes over for my interview and we'll leave within the 2 week time frame he'll be taking off for work.

My parents are really helpful, so they'd probably end up tying up all the loose ends for me.

Uh, that's if everything goes well. Haha.

Well I moved out of my apartment July 1st, about a week before my Montreal interview. I moved back in with my Mom to save $$. The cost of my rent, bills, car payment, etc there was no way I'd save $$ before I moved and I wasn't moving to the US empty handed. So, moved in with Mama, saved a ton of cash, and moved here Nov. 15th!

What is VAC?

Can't you ask for a work authorization at POE?

VAC is Vancouver Consulate

Most POE's do not give the work authorization stamp with a K-1 visa anymore, although JFK might still, not sure. Even though K-1 is technically work authorized, most employers won't hire you without an EAD and SS number to work. If you apply for an EAD as soon as you enter the country before submitting AOS it costs you money and is a waste, because by the time you receive your EAD your K-1 visa has hit its 90 day expiration. If you apply for EAD, as well as advance parole with AOS its included in the $1010 fee.
