Sorry for a question that probably has been asked over and over but I cannot find a definitive answer (and my call to the USCIS was worthless).

My facts:

I am a U.S. citizen. I have married a foreign (Russian) F-1 visa holder. She is currently in the USA studying for her masters degree. I am currently deployed in Iraq with the Army. I am submitting on her behalf an I-130 and an I-485. The I-485 instructions say to include as "initial evidence" a medical examination. The USCIS person I spoke with did not list this as a necessary item when initially filing. I pointed out what the instructions said and the USCIS rep. responded that she could only tell me what her script said and that if the instructions stated otherwise I should follow the instructions.

Any advice ?

Thanks a bundle for any help you can lend. And, thank goodness for this website !

She will need to have a full medical done by a Civil Surgeon, You can find a list of Civil Surgeons in your area on the USCIS website.

I agree with TayRivers.

We just filed our AOS and would have done so sooner if it wasn't for the medical exam. We had conflicting advice and was told we didn't need it to file. Fortunately, we had immigration lawyers take a look at our papers and they told us we need the medical exam to be done before you file. It is good for a year so make sure you are ready to file when you have it done.

Good luck,

Shelly
