Firstly isn`t it cool that this disease is not available int he U.K.?

on a serious note though.

On mondya i am meeting with the community nurse at my local GP and she was very helpful and said she could sort out my Tetanus and said i should bring anything else i might need and she would see what she could do. I figure anythign she does will save me money. So it says on the vaccine chart that i need MMR and Chicken POX.

If Chicken Pox is unavailable int he U.K. then how do they expect us to get it? and what usually happens?

Is this a dumb question?

thanks

Hi Again,

Yeah...varicella in not available in the UK, and I beleive you will be waived from it.

If you get the shots at the GP, you won't have to pay.

Graham went and sorted it all out last month-when he went for his medical-all we paid for was the exam, and the doc was inpressed that he didn't need any jabs.

Good luck-don't fret-you'll ge it sorted !

As long as you're up to date with all the other vaccinations your inability to get the Varicella vacination in the UK is not a problem and in itself will not mean your visa application is denied.

You will however be required to get the Varicella vaccination in the USA in order to have your AOS approved unless there are extenuating reasons as to why you cannot have it.

sorry - didn't realise it was CR1! so the AOS wouldn't apply in that case.

Huffythevampireslayer - very unusual not to have to produce certificate of immunity if stating had chickenpox as a child (which actually in itself does not necessarily prove immunity). I too had chickenpox as a child but because of not being able to provide certificate of immunity had to have the Varicella vaccination prior to AOS to fulfill its requirements and so did my teenage son!

I think everyone seems to have different experiences on this one. I had pox as a child, and have a nice scar on my face, but it was not accepted as proof at the medical. Some people show a scar and it IS accepted. If you don't have any scars, or have not had it, or don't want to risk anything, ask the nurse to see if she will do the titre. She probably will if you try to talk her around the fact that she can't jab you with it, so maybe she can do the titre instead.

If you had Chicken pox as a child, chances are the nurse will know, as it will be on record, as mine was  ....print out the list for the nurse to look at that way she will know what she needs to give you

I had tetanus/dip/MMR  .then the nurse wrote all my vaccination history in a little booklet for me to take to the medical

Hmmm..I and my daughter both had CPox around 6 years ago (she gave it to me, that's when I realised I wasn't immune like I'd thought  ) but its not down on our records anywhere - I called the doc and he said it sounded like Cpox, was pretty sure it was but he didn't make any notes abiout it - it wasn't like he could HELP so we didn't bother going to visit..

Hers was gone after about 3 days, mine took almost 3 WEEKS to go (figures) and I have a few scars from it so I HOPE they will take those as 'proof' as I know at AOS its a required shot..

Actually the Varcella injection is available in the UK, it's just that most people do not need it, at my local surgery the nurse did offer it but it was not cheap and you had to wait for it, also it is cheaper to have this particular injection done in the USA. I did go ahead and had the HTB shots with the nurse. At the medical in London I had the Tetnus and the MMR. So by the time I got to the interview I was maxed out lol.

Time for AOS in the USA like huffy I was asked if I had Chicken Pox as a child and I said yes that I did but also was asked my age and the nurse was so nice, she said "oh no you do not need the Chicken Pox injection" actually I was quite please I was not looking forward to another injection.

Personally Lisa I was TOLD that at the GP surgery when they looked at the vaccinatins required list from the Embassy - and I know other people have been told the same by THEIR GP surgery..not that I needed one anyway, lol. (Tho honestly I'd much rather have had the shot than the illness..)
