Vancouver Consulate Question

I have a question regarding the Vancouver consulate checklist (Package 3) that is available for download on their website. http://vancouver.usconsulate.gov/content/c...document=fiance

It does not list Evidence of Support (I-134) which I am assuming is an error as the last revision was 3/30/09?

My fiance will be providing me with I-134, tax transcripts for 05-07(which should arrive in 2 weeks), a copy of W-2 and 1040 for 2008, a letter from his employer, letter of intent, and servicemembers group life insurance certificate. He called USAA about his bank letter and was told it will take 6-8 weeks! I hope that was just a disclaimer to cover their butts like USCIS!! Has anyone successfully gone through an interview or interview in Vancouver without a bank letter?

I would like to schedule my interview in Vancouver for the end of May beginning of June at the latest and depending on the date I request and seasonal demand they schedule 4-6 weeks in advance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Sorry to see you have no answers, but I'd guess that you are correct that someone edited the I-134 out of the revision made on 3/30/09. I was wondering if perhaps they are sending the USC a letter directly to ensure the I-134 requirement is being completed. I dunno...

Have you gotten your Packet 3 letter in the mail yet?

Also, I should mention that I bank with USAA as well and the letter I got was a "Good Standing Letter" which details the balances and dates opened on all bank accounts but does not outline the amount of deposits over the last year. I will be providing statements to cover that portion of the requirement. Anyhow, they were able to mail that to me within 1 week. Hope that helps.

I sent the Vancouver Consulate an email questioning the omission of the I-134. Here is their response:

"To qualify, you must demonstrate to the consular officer's satisfaction that you will not become a public charge. The Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be required when the consular officer deems it useful. If available, we suggest that your bring a completed I-134, and all or any of the following documents – employment letter, bank statements, properties, tax returns, etc. to the interview."

So the letter may be requested in some cases, but is not necessarily required.

Thanks for that feedback... Not required but good to have.

Out of curiosity, when is your interview?

I have not received Packet 3 letter in the mail yet, hopefully by next week!

I was in NE last week when my fiance called USAA, I remember him talking about a letter of "Good Faith" when he was on the phone with them. I don't recall if he mentioned total deposits on the account or not, but hopefully it will not take the 6-8 weeks!

ok my interview is tomorrow and i should be going to bed but i just cant  i was freaking out today about the I134 so I decided to email the consulate (and i was kind of annoying and asked them basically the same question. lol. like i said i was freaking out)

this is their answer:

A K visa applicant and any accompanying children must meet the public charge requirement of INA 212(a)(15) like any other visa applicant. Evidence of support is usually requested by the consular officer. There is, however, no absolute requirement that an affidavit of support or other public charge documentation be presented. It is only necessary that the consular officer be able to conclude that the alien is not likely to become a public charge.

Applicants may submit a letter from the petitioner's employer or evidence that they will be self-supporting. The Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be required when the consular officer deems it useful.

I guess the checklist wasn't a typo..LOL...Interesting to see how they worded it that the I-134 is not REQUIRED but good to have if there is a question whether you would become a public charge. Anyways, get some sleep borderdriver! Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes!

Out of curiosity, when is your interview?

I haven't booked my interview yet. I'll need to do that within a week or two though. Apparently the wait for Vancouver is now 4-6 weeks according to the same email reply that I received.

Thank you eyoa for emailing the Consulate!

No problem! I'm waiting for my fiance to file his 2008 & 2009 taxes, so I got all excited when I saw the new checklist, hoping that maybe, just maybe they had changed it. Oh well, he'll have them done by April 15th anyway or the IRS and I will be after him. ;)

Good luck tomorrow, borderdriver!

I didn't want to make a new thread about this so i can am just going to add it to the original hoping I will get an answer. I received an information packet by email from the Woking Medical Services and I had a question pertaining to one of the requirements. I emailed the receptionist back with my question and she asked for my number to contact me directly, it has been 2 days and no phone call!

10. If you’ve been convicted of an offense (including DUI), please let us know when booking your

appointment. A different procedure is required. Informing us can save you a time & expense.

What type of offense are they talking about? I am assuming it has to do with questions related to the DS-230 about drug trafficking violations and crimes of moral turpitude? Can anyone share some insight to this?
