Are you talking about Duty-free, or packing bottles at your home in France?

If you are packing it from France, just pack it safely and you will be fine. You will need to declare it, but I think you will be within the limit.

If the bottles are from Duty-free in France (meaning you will carry them on board the flight from France to Canada), you need to check and see if you have access to your luggage in Toronto. If you have access in Toronto, then you can put the bottles in your luggage at that time. If you don't have access to your luggage AND you carried them on board from Framce, you might not be able to get through security in Toronto.

Maybe someone from Canada knows better? I have transited in countries where they have directly loaded the luggage onto the next flight (Australia does that) and I have transited where I have to 'recheck' my luggage.

I would suggest you buy the stuff when you arrive.

But yes, you would declare it on customs and hope it doesn't get broken. They usually wont allow you to bring your stuff through security, so you would have to check it.

If you go through a duty free store, you can take it in the cabin with you.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

well, for being in france and having wine that i will never find over there that would be uncool.

so call me stubborn but i want to bring them. ;)

that 's a good thing that my luggage is made in abs material. :(

I've never had a problem packing wine in my suitcases. You are allowed 1 litre of alcohol duty free. This link is from the Canada/US border but it's applicable to Europe as well: Duty Free Allowances

Anything above and beyond that they may make you pay duty on. Have a great trip!

ok,so admitting i put them into my luggage, but do i have to declare then i am passing through the security check or the paper that we fulfil on the plane? or only once i am arriving at one those POE in the US airport?

Or..NEVER?

There will be a question on the Customs form which they give you to fill out on the airplane. If you don't get one on the plane you will fill one out in the Customs area. That is where you declare it.

I ALWAYS bring more alcohol than the tax free allowance and have NEVER had to pay. I declare it all too.

I don't think CBP cares about a few extra bottles....it must not be worth their time.

(CBP is more concerned with stopping fiances of US citizens from visiting :crying: )

You will list the wine and champagne on the back of the blue customs form.

Full size bottles of Duty Free alcohol MUST go into your checked baggage. It CANNOT be taken on aircraft in hand baggage since airlines implemented the maximum fluid limit of 3 ounces per container in hand baggage.

Also, most countries have a limit as to the number of bottles of alcohol (or quantity of cigarettes, etc) that can be brought into their borders - checked baggage or hand baggage. Of course, nothing is going to get removed from checked baggage unless that bag happens to be pulled. So, if you plan on carrying over the maximum, be prepared to lose it should your case happen to be randomly selected.

I do not know the limits in the US. You can probably obtain that information from travel.state.gov or cbp.gov.

I provided a link to the duty free allowances in Post #4. They won't relieve you of any overages unless you choose that option instead of paying the duty on them..... which they seldom ever do for relatively small amounts.

My post was referring to what you can carry in hand baggage. Checked baggage is different, yes.

i brought exactly what you want to bring home from france. 2 bottles of wine from random vineyards and one bottle of veuve from the cellars. i packed it in with my clothes and checked the bags. i claimed them on the little checklist they give you. no one asked, i didn't have to pay anything, and there were no problems. good luck! :star:
