Oh my .....Kumar has been hired by the White House!

WASHINGTON – The White House has hired actor Kal Penn as a liaison between President Barack Obama's administration and Asian constituents. White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday that the actor who had a recurring role on Fox's TV show "House" and has starred in several movies would join the staff as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison.

His role will be to connect Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as arts groups.

Penn starred as Kumar in the movie, "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay." His "House" character committed suicide in Monday's episode.

Penn backed Obama during the campaign. The White House says a start date for Penn hasn't been set.

The White House did not reveal what Penn would be paid. Aides with similar titles earned between $41,000 and $91,000 last year.

The hire was first reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Isn't that Kumar?

NOOOOO....it's Kalpen Suresh Modi aka Kal Penn..... :hehe:

I didnt see a mention here of a terrific "SERIOUS" film he starred in a few years ago, The Namesake, directed by Mira Nair. (2006)

He plays Gogol Ganguli (I KNOW, I KNOW...and that's what the movie is about), an Indian-American teen whose Bengali parents saddle him with a very unusual name and their expectations for his future.

Even if you think "Kumar/Kal Penn" is just moronic or an over-the-top-liberal, you really really really should see this movie.

Here's a bit of trivia from imdb.com: "(Kal Penn) Was offered a part in "Planet Terror," the Robert Rodriguez segment of Grindhouse (2007), but turned it down due to the conflicting shoot of The Namesake (2006). His favorite book is "The Namesake" and used to check into hotels under the pseudonym of "Gogol Ganguli", the lead character of the book. When found out that Mira Nair was making a film out of it, despite her having already cast an actor in the part, Penn lobbied for the role and eventually won it."

My heart has adopted every shape.

It has become a pasture for gazelles,

And a convent for Christian monks,

And a temple for idols,

And a pilgrim's Ka'ba,

The tables of a Torah,

And the pages of a Qu'ran.

I follow the religion of love.

Wherever love's camels turn,

There love is my religion and my faith.

Ibn al'Arabi, "Tarjuman al-Ashwak" (13th century)
