Some people are too lazy to cook fresh foods. They find it much easier to just microwave some #######. I have a friend whose mom seriously does her grocery shopping at gas station. She told me they have everything she needs there

I see people like this all the time buying what appears to be their weekly shop.....in the liquor store.

WOW!

She explained it to me too...she said they have bacon, eggs, bread, cheese, juice, pop, booze, frozen stuff, snacks, coffee. She said "why would I need to go anywhere else?"

I don't think you understand what I am saying.

Most people generally shop habitually. Some people are not aware that the food they buy is old and not really representative of what a fresh and decent specimen of that particular produce should be. I have seen the produce that is available in some supermarkets and whether you choose to believe that it can be old and rancid and still be sold within date is entirely up to you but that is is the case in my experience and it is more prevelant here than in the UK IN MY EXPERIENCE.

Also some people are so out of touch with fresh produce they can't even name a lot of it and certainly have no clue how to prepare it. I have had this experience buying leaks in Ralphs (before I found decent places to buy produce). The check out staff did not know what they were and had to ask me, and even when I bought some in Mothers, of all places, I had people ask me what they are, what you do with them and how to prepare them. That has never happened to me in the UK, not with any fruit or vegetable.

I agree with you Amby, but it's not always lazy, some people don't know how to cook. They never learned.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I know what you mean about the produce. A lot of the time people at the grocery store ask me what things are. Sometimes they're like "oh I didn't even know we had this" or "I've never seen that before!"

As for the bolded part, I can't wait until I'm able to get the time to finish my cookbook. It'll be a great contribution to humanity

leeks are not a common vegetable here. i would imagine it would similar if you went to the UK and asked for a mangosteen.

When my friend moved here from France, he called me very confused because he couldn't find leeks at the grocery store.

one time i was at wallmart(groceries store) and a very big person was behind me checking out her items, her daughter who was about 10 and double the size she should be asked to get a drink.the mom said yes...she camed back with a diet coke, the mom told her: go get a real coke, you need sugar to grow.....

it took a lot of effort for me not to turn around and say something...

that young girl was so big, i could hear her breathe.....

Now there is NO excuses , some people might say , it s 2 expensive to eat healthy, i beg to differ..(water is free, sodas aren t ...).but those people chose quantity over quality so they can eat more and get even bigger...i have no sympathy for parents who are ruinning their kids s life.

and the problem today with child obesity is simple : the parents lack of interest in their kids s health, sodas, junk food, 2 much tv, not enough activities....

the result: obese kids who will suffer in school for years and never feel accepted, ending in low self esteem , keeping to themselves, depression, healths problems and much more and most of them dont manage to let go of that vicious circle and end up struggling with their weight their entire life.

Leek and potato soup is wonderful. Although I have to admit that it's not the same unless it's super cold outside - which it never is in SoCal, well not where I live anyway.

 SHUT UP!!! Sheesh ---

some people should def. not be allowed to reproduce damnit.

And i have absolutely NO sympathy either for so called "parents" who do this kind of stuff. Taking years out of their kids lives, and adding them years of mean people like myself poking fun at them in school. #######, did I just say that?????????
