I think salad cream and hand cream are probably equivalent in terms of tastiness and nutritional value, so I totally understand where you're coming from, Nich.

Will you please stop dissing the salad cream. I can't handle it when I'm hormonal.

I never tasted Salad Cream...something about the name struck me when I first saw it in the UK. I made me think of hand cream.

I'll always look at Salad Cream differently now.

 Well the words "salad" and "cream" together just didn't compute. There were thoughts of shaving cream, antibiotic cream, Vagisil feminine cream... Ok, I'll stop hahahahaha

Sorry, I did not mean to take over this thread...if any one is interested in Pakistani recipes or similar food-related questions, feel free to PM me!

Nooooooooooooo. I'm enjoying reading them here.

I don't suppose you have a good naan bread recipe?

Naan bread recipe:

(Makes 6 Naans; each of 8 inch diameter)

Ingredients

-2/3 cup milk (or water)

-2 cups all-purpose flour

-2 teaspoons onion seeds/sesame seeds/poppy seeds (either one of these works fine...)

-1 teaspoon yeast (Dry)

-1 teaspoon sugar

-1 teaspoon salt

-4 tablespoons clarified butter (use non-fat/ low fat or whatever you wish)

-2 tablespoons yogurt (plain yogurt)

Directions

1. Whisk warm milk/water with the yeast and sugar until the yeast is dissolved.

2. Cover and let stand in a warm place/room temperature for 10 minutes.

3. Sift flour and salt three times into a large bowl add the yeast mixture, half of the butter and the yogurt.

4. Mix into a soft dough then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes or until dough is smooth and elastic.

5. Place the dough in a large greased bowl, cover and let stand in a warm place for 1 1/2 hours or until the dough is doubled in size.

6. Punch down dough then knead for 5 minutes.

7. Divide dough into 6 pieces.

8. Roll each piece out into 8 inch round nans.

9. Cover an oven tray with foil and grease the foil.

10. Brush the nan with a little of the remaining butter and sprinkle with some of the onion seeds.

11. Cook Nan one at a time under a very hot grill for about 2 minutes on each side or until puffed and just browned.

OR you can bake them in your oven all at once, but it is required for you to turn them on each side after ~4 minutes, so do this while constantly standing at the oven. Ideally, naans are cooked in clay ovens in Pakistan and India...but I doubt many of us have clay ovens...

Also...the above process takes quite a bit of energy and time...a very great product...don't remember the name right now, but they are freezer naans, come in a variety: garlic/plain/pizza and are available at your local Desi/Pakistani/Indian grocery store. Just take them out of the freezer and warm them right on your stove-top, directly over the cooking fire if you have gas stoves, but if you have electric, then use a skillet.

:) Happy cooking!

Also, just an FYI:

This is the finished result: Naan

And if you are going to buy onion seeds from a Desi/Indian/Pakistani grocer, they are called: KALONJI (ONION SEEDS) and look like this in the packet:

on the miracle whip side, Paul bought some when it was on sale, unbeknown to me it tasted fowl and even worse when I tried to make egg salad with it, I took one bite after making the egg salad and wanted to hurl, paul finished it all off by himself. But then again he'll eat pretty much anything O_o silly boy stuck his pinky in my jar of marmite so then again maybe not everything by the face he pulled

has anyone found any *good* crumpets out here? or am I going to have to go practice making my own? (and probably end up wanting to scream)

I got crumpets in Krogers - Farm Country brand. They are wider and flatter than the ones in England but I've been enjoying them.
