My fiance is probably 3 months away from an interview in HCMC. I was wondering if we have enough documents. I saw on some web site that they require the petitioner's birth certificate. Is this true? I do not have a birth certificate since it was lost in VN 27 years ago. Will the Naturalize citizenship certificate be enough? If you know the answer please let me know. Thanks. :help:

If you do not have birthcertificate, the following documents below are accepted in lieu of your birthcertificate.

---A copy of your naturalization certification or certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the forme INS.

---A copy of Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the Unitd States, issued by an American embassy or consulate.

---A copy of your unexpired US passport

---An original statement from a US consular officer verifying that you are a US citizen with a valid passport.

OTHERS:

---Church records

---School records

---Census

---Affidavits

Hope this helps.

The petitioner's birth certificate is required at the interview. They write this requirement in all the forms they send the beneficiary.

I think you should e-mail the consulate and ask them about your situation. Perhaps you can substitute the certificate of naturalization, but no one besides the consulate will be able to tell you.

I know in Vietnam, you can get a letter from the local department of justice saying that they can't find your birth certificate or won't issue you another one. That is something else you can try.

Good luck.
