Would anyone care to post their nightmare immigration stories?

I was paitiently waiting for my wife's EAD and was getting very angry that it was several months overdue. I even made trips to a Congressional Office and my local Post Office.

One day my wife is cleaning out a drawer with some junk mail in her name. With the mail was a completely innocuous white envelope with a Missouri postal address. I might have told her initially that it looked unimportant. No indication at all it was her EAD. When she finally opened the envelope I almost had a coronary. Here was the EAD in an unmarked envelope.

The moral to my story is to check every piece of mail or you may end up looking pretty silly.

OMG! OMG!!!! That was crazy!!!!! I bet u almost had a coronary....I'd have killed my husband!!!! Damn...how can this happen? I mean as soon as I see an envelope with INS name on it, I detroy the mail box just to get it out.....and some ppl think its junk! OMG Man I'm so sorry for u. U could have avoided all this stress

I think the EAD's are sent in unmarked envelopes much like credit cards, to avoid theft.

Still, I think there should be some way of knowing what is inside. Maybe an x-ray machine.

Wes' EAD envelope was CLEARLY marked from Dept. of Homeland Security.

I'm told however that the greencard itself comes in a plain white envelope.

Yes a plain white envelope, mine was also addressed to me & my husband

My EAD and Greencard came to me in umarked envelopes. So, be careful, as I am convinced that many people who think they have not received these cards, have in fact thrown them out instead. Expensive trash . It's a good thing that yours was still "at home".

OMG, I sure hope you were able to get everything fixed and everything worked out. Thanks for the advice, that could happen to anyone because of all the junk mail all of us gets everyday.

Our dumb story was when we sent in or work permit paperwork and the payment we sent the form fee and the biometric fee in the same check and it got sent back. I had read everywhere that you had to send both payments $185 + $70 I think, but when it was returned all they wanted was the $185. I never had to pay the $70 for the work permit biometrics. But on the greencard biometrics I sent seperate payments and they excepted the $70 then. I would've thought with two trips for different biometrics I'd have to pay twice. Luckily it only delayed us a couple weeks, but I felt like I was so stupid since I misunderstood the lawyer and the websites.
