Hmm, sea catfish...I'll consider it.

I love other fish though: Wild salmon, grouper, halibut, herring, cod, rainbow trout, swordfish, eel, etc. Yum!

Is cod fresh water or sea water fish?

We don't have much variety out here only -- salmon, tuna, tilapia, cod and catfish.

I would so kill someone to get some fresh sardine 8.gif and no I don't like canned ones :P

Cod are saltwater fish.

The problem with buying what fish is available is where it comes from. Yesterday, I was looking at some frozen salmon labeled Alaskan, but came from or processed in China. OK...no thanks. Bad enough it should be shipped from a million miles away in Alaska without having it rerouted through China.

Don't like catfish, the muddy taste is not my cup of tea. Plus, if I want cat - I'll have cat. If I want fish - I'll have fish. :jest:

I like any other fish though, except for this one:

Fish fail in Tokyo.

That looks like sardine, I am not sure how they made it but I love sardine made by my dad.

Thanks, I am going to try cod then. Kind of get confusing for me with English name of fish, I have picked up some but most of them I am unsure about.

And yes I have seen those Chinese processed Alaskan ones :P

That's what I was thinking, a sardine. But it was pretty big for a sardine, about 20cm long.

I love sardines though. Boquerones fritos ftw!

I want that, now :(

I wish I could find fresh sardines.

That is a mackerel. I like all oily fish. These are good smoked and with salads but they are a very strong flavour. Not for the faint of heart.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Oh is that what it is! It smelled really strong, but like old fish, just very pungent flavourful.

It was a bad evening at a Japanese restaurant. They spoke no English, there was no English menu, so I took what they recommended. Ended up with that thing and a plate of fried sea weed. I could not eat the fish, but didn't want to be rude, so I got a doggy bag. There were no bins on the streets, so the macarel stayed in my hotel room with me over night. :dead:

I would probably have loved it. I really like smoked mackerel, which I believe is what your picture is of. The yellow/brown tinge being the give away :)

I know it's a mackerel because of those wavy stripes :)

Of course I don't know, but that's how my smoked mackerel from home looks :)

It is very fishy though, of that there is no doubt. :) Everyone is different with their tastes. I don't like the strongest cheeses, Roquefort for example, but some people think that's cheese bliss.
