anyone ever make strawberry jam/preserves for canning? i've made it before, but not to actually can it.

my mom did.. it was so good...

I want to make freezer jam this year... super simple , you just buy this special pectin type stuff that doesn't need to be cooked and mix it in with the strawberries and some sugar and put in some containers and freeze it... sounds like it would taste better because you are not cooking the life out of the strawberries...

I did that last year with blackberries and it was pretty good. Maybe I'll just try that. I actually think I have a packet of it left. We're going to this u-pick farm tomorrow so I'll probably end up with lots of strawberries.

I think you can use any of the pectins. They actually have a packet with all the canning stuff that just says "freezer jam" on it

dang, someone keeps knocking on the door.... there is no way in heck i am answering the door at 8pm in the evening in this neighborhood.. they actually started pounding on it too I think they know someone is home because the AC is on and the lights are on

they also have plastic "jars" with screw on lids for the freezer. I think Ball also makes those. I'll probably just use my beloved deli containers.
