I know it's probably horrible of me, but all I can think is it must really suck being stupid, poor, and trashy. Oh and she's in a wheelchair

You know, maybe it's not all that easy to be super fabulous when one has physical limitations.

The fact that she is in a wheelchair shouldn't affect most of what the girl was complaining about though. She complained that the professor wouldn't pass her even though she is trying really hard, she complained that she is being made to go to parenting classes because she does not know how to discipline her son properly (okay, one could argue this has to do with physical limitations, but I highly highly doubt it! We all know parents in wheelchairs who are perfectly capable, amazing parents!), and she also needs financial aid (which again, could be because she has physical limitations...but LOTS of people without physical limitations need financial aid as well...so her being in the wheelchair has nothing to do with it!).

I think the point of Amby telling us that she was in a wheelchair was so we could better imagine the situation that she is in right now (amby, not the girl in the wheelchair).

YES!

The whole point is, I get random people telling me stuff like this once a week! I don't know why people just pick me out and come talk to me. Why would someone who doesn't even know me come up and tell me all this stuff?

I would never just get up and walk away.

I think ALL people pretend to care about what someone is saying because it would be rude to just get up and walk away.

yea because it's such a torture to listen to people who have a sucky life.. do you also kick bums in the street when asking for a quarter?

I agree that random people crying to me about their problems is awkward to me. If you are my friend, then I'd love to hear your problems and help you out, but otherwise, it's strange for someone that you don't know to just come up to you and start telling you their life story.

And before you say that is what we do on VJ, it's different. VJ is an online forum where I choose to read what I choose to read and I choose to reply to what I choose to reply to. That means if I don't want to read about someones story, then I don't have to. But in this case, Amby couldn't just walk away and not respond because that would be rude.

It is awkward because I'm like ughhhhh do I say something? Do they have no one else to talk to? Do they just need to vent? Do they want feedback or just listening?

by saying this below you are posing it as you are certainly NOT any of these horrid things. Obviously if someone has these traits or limitations - certainly they are the opposite of fabulous.

I agree with Marina. I personally do not allow strangers to strike conversation with me. EVER. Because of the awkwardness involved and because I am just NOT a friendly person; and a very selfish one. I an not a free counseling center. Does this mean I am a complete b1t5ch and lack empathy? I don't think so. That is something completely different, me thinks.

intelligence, enough money to live without assistance, not trashy (standard stereotypical white trash that is), and being able to walk makes one fabulous? there must be a lot of really fabulous people in the world!
